About the Author
Hello! My name is Doolb and I am a huge fan of Survival. I've been playing WoW since 2006 and have been a huge fan of Survival ever since Legion's pre-patch and we picked up the spear. You can always find me hanging around one of my favorite places on the internet:
Trueshot Lodge
—the best Hunter Discord server around. This guide is a collaborative effort between myself and Thyminde (aka Velratha) and will be frequently updated. Feel free to stop by TSL and ask anything you need!
Macros
Macros are simple, in-game tools which allow you to sequence spells together, create custom names and icons, cast different abilities depending on whether the target is friendly or hostile, define targeting conditions, and much, much more. While the amount of options can be complex, making them is easy, so in this section we'll go over how to set them up yourself.
To open the in-game Macro interface, type "/macro" or "/m".
Choose between the General and Character-specific macro tabs. Then click the "New" button on the macro window.
Choose a Name and an Icon so you can easily recognize your macro, then click "Okay."
Select your new macro and use the text editor below to tell it what to do. If copying ours below, you can simply copy/paste the text in.
Click the "Save" button, and drag your macro icon onto your bars, which will allow it to be used just like any other spell from your spellbook.
To close the window, click "Exit", or just press Escape.
For more information on creating macros, including full lists of conditionals, modifiers, and other command customizations you can use, check out our full

#showtooltip Aspect of the Turtle
/cast !Aspect of the Turtle

Generic Useful Macros
This will allow you to Focus an attackable target that you're mousing over.
/focus
Casts at your Focused Target if you have one. Otherwise, casts at your current target.
Useful for abilities such as
Muzzle
,
Tranquilizing Shot
,
Scatter Shot
,
Intimidation
#showtooltip
/cast
Useful for a one button hot-bar for choice nodes, such as the Intimidation or Hi-Explosive Trap node.
#showtooltip
/use Intimidation; High Explosive Trap
Pet Attacks / Coordinated Assault Empower
Coordinated Assault
features a mechanic that relies on basic pet abilities such as
Claw
to trigger its empowerments. Pet autocasts are not flawless however, and will leave a small gap inbetween autocasts. This leads to a ~10% downtime on
Coordinated Assault
, which can then lead to you trying to use an empowered ability just as the empowerment buff expires putting
Kill Shot
on cooldown without any of the benefits.
The following macros attempt to combat this issue.
This macro will turn off pet basic ability autocasts entirely when you press
Coordinated Assault
, which will start to make sense if you also use the next macro.
#showtooltip
/cast Coordinated Assault
/petautocastoff Claw;
/petautocastoff Bite;
/petautocastoff Smack;
This macro will use your pet basic ability as you use kill shot, which will ensure it is empowered, provided it is not already on cooldown (which it shouldn't be, as your pet is not autocasting anymore using the above macro).
#showtooltip kill shot
/use Claw
/use Bite
/use Smack
/use
You can then turn autocast back on by using a macro such as the one below, combining your mount keybind with an "autocast" keybind. Since can only be done out of combat anyway, pairing these two together won't interfere and will save you a keybind.
This Weakaura
can assist with reminding you to turn on pet autocast, as well as assist with Coordinated Assault in general.
/cast Highland Drake
/cast Sunwarmed Furline
/cast Grey Riding Yak
/dismount
/petautocaston Claw;
/petautocaston Bite;
/petautocaston smack;
Alternatively, this macro can be applied to the majority of your rotational abilities in an attempt to speed up the auto-casts of your pet. This solution helps a little, but isn't as consistent.
#showtooltip
/cast Kill Command
/cast Claw(Basic Attack)
/cast Bite(Basic Attack)
/cast Smack(Basic Attack)
Pet Missing
If you tend to forget about your pet (whether it died or you forgot to call it) this macro can be added to your Kill Command to ensure your pet is alive and spawned. Otherwise, if your pet is active, will just use Kill Command.
#showtooltip
/cast Revive Pet; Call Pet 1; Kill Command
Addons
Addons are powerful tools that can be used to both customize your gameplay experience, ranging from graphical overlays, replacement action bars, and unit/raid frames, to performance enhancements such as rotation helping spell reminders, buff/debuff tracking, popup reminders, and boss warnings. Here are some of the highly recommended and commonly used Survival Hunter addons, which are certainly not required to play, but can go a long way toward increasing the information available to you in combat or simply make for a more pleasant viewing experience.
Unlike Macros, managing Addons is done outside of the game, but our
How to Install and Maintain Addons Guide
will take you step-by-step through the process.

/
BigWigs

Your personal resources, your cooldowns, your buff durations, your DoT durations, if you have a pet out, etc. Not only that, these are easily sharable and you can export or import to and from other players.
There are so many varieties of WeakAuras that you can choose from but based on the most popular auras on

NOTE:
Please be careful about importing random WeakAuras from a source that isn't reliable or that you don't trust.
Damage meter
: Details is the perfect addon to let you check the damage you and your group members do. This addon is also useful to track interrupts, dispels or deaths.
