Anyone thinking about specc'ing discipline to get this, do yourself a favor and don't.
It is literally insta-purged/dispelled in PvP
Even if it isn't and this spell is up you will still get three shotted by DPS classes.
If you calculate it out then the rogue spell evasion trainable from level 8 is better

I found it useful in pvp against rogues, hunters and warriors. And for some reason a priest I was up against wasn't dispelling it (perhaps he was dispelling my other buffs first, idk). I found myself surviving a lot longer than pre-patch even if PS only lasted a few seconds. That may be because of other disc talents, however.

Regardless of what people are saying, this talent has saved my life so much. I don't think I'll ever respec out of it. I mostly heal and occasionally throwout a smite with my PI. In the arena, I've survived a wave of 2 arcane power mages simultaneously throwing insta-Pyroblasts at me, all to the thanks of this talent. I was shadow with +300 dmg pre-patch, because it was the only way to survive. Now I find myself healing through multiple opponents attacking me. Sure, people dispel it, but hardly at all. I've used it a total of maybe, 50 times, and it's been dispelled about 3 times.

It's a lifesaver, and if you're having a hardtime in PvP.. it just may well be worth your precious points.

As it stands now, discipline is the best pvp healing tree. Pain suppression arguably takes care of the priest-bane in group pvp: the assist train. You can combine this bad boy with any combination of fear, shield, or grenade to survive an otherwise hopeless situation.

While it is currently still dispellable, in my (horde) experience it VERY rarely actually gets taken off.

Verdict: good talent.

This ability has has the potential to change the tide of battles, especially in grouped pvp, where the priest is often the first target. Combined with inner fire, PW: Shield and its ever so good companion talent Reflective Shield, the term survivability for a priest just got a whole new meaning.

As of the patch notes of 2.1.0 "Pain Suppression" now reduces damage taken by 65% and increases resistance to Dispel mechanics by 65% for the duration.

I pretty much do Alot of pvp and arena fights, generally as 2v2 or 3v3 ive not actually tried 5v5 yet...

But my 2v2 partner is a lock, ditto on 3v3 with someone else, and as a priest (or mayby im just very attractive) Everyone goes on me, they use their cooldowns, trinkets, everything imo, and go all out on me, i expect this nowadays and cant survive 2 or 3 people nuking me, pop this, pop shield, regen and heals and its like their hittng a brick wall with a hammer made of water... most of the time anyway. By time time their trinkets and cooldowns are done normal healing and shield should be suffient.

Not greatly a pve skill imo, with my current spec ive not gained aggro from healing my peeps for ages, although im sure itll be handy for heroics

At the Games Convention the WotlK client had this spell changed. It is now a 1minute cooldown and castable on friendly targets in 20 yards.

it will be changed in patch 2.3 and it will be a 2 min cd not 1 min. and it will reduce threat with 5% and reduce damage with 40% on friendly target's.

If your tank can afford the threat loss, I highly suggest bringing a full discipline priest to a Prince Malchezaar fight. During phase 2 he hits really hard and the -40% can make a difference if your tank is dying way too fast.

But as for the threat, it isnt a problem for me -- I'm a pally tank, so I can burst the threat if I need to via Avenging Wrath(+30% damage, +52% threat for 20 sec) and the second highest on threat rarely goes above 70%.

Does the 65% resist to dispell mechanics also apply to spellsteal?

As a mage i've taken this off before, but pretty much out of luck because in pvp and especially arena's, they will be stacked with all sorts of buffs. But if the 65% applies to it then you'd only get it once in a blue moon, being lucky enough to even steal anything, and then get the buff you actually want.

In PvP, Pain Suppression has to be used preventatively and is not really a true "oh-@#$%" button, because a 40% reduction in damage for someone who's taking a lot of it isn't going to save them if they're at low health.

Vastly underrated in 5-mans, Pain Suppression has saved groups I have ran in from wipes numerous times.

This does not affect fall damage. Jump off a cliff and you will die.

If combined whit 3 talents in Silent Resolve this spell really kick ass, giving the target an almost complete immunity from Dispel mechanics

With the massive increase to threat gen tanks have received in 3.0, this may be viable to use on tanks more often as long as you keep an eye on the threat meter.

There are several spells and talents out there that can steal or remove a buff (like Power Word: Fortitude, any Healing over time Spell).
To Quote WoWWiki: Dispel refers to the general game mechanic of removing Buffs and Debuffs. All of these effects belong to a Dispel Type. Most dispel abilities remove effects from a specific dispel type, but in some cases they remove depending on a specific mechanic (for example, Luffa removes bleed effects).

Dispels can be resisted. In fact, there are two different types of resists:

Resists (caused by spell hit and resistances)
Fails (caused by dispel resistance)

Normal resists do only exist for offensive dispels and follow the same rule as any other spell. When a dispel is normally resisted, it does not remove any buffs.

Fails are treated differently. They are calculated per buff and can also occur when dispelling friendly targets. There is an innate chance that this happens (however, this might be a bug). In addition, dispel resistance can be used to increase the chance, such as from Silent Resolve. Due to fails being calculated separately for each buff, a dispel which would remove two buffs could eliminate one buff while retaining the other. On spell hit procs are not affected by fails. As such, a Dispel Magic (rank 2) can trigger a proc even though it fails at removing both buffs.

It is a nice, three effect, instant cast and only costs 8% of base mana. This spell helps you well when you aggro quite a lot. It will reduce damage taken and help remove threat. In PvP, the dispel resistance is enormously useful. The damage reduction helps in anyway.

Definately worth it . with Silent resolve and pain suppresion's base resistance to dispell. giving u a 95% chance to resist dispell. so yes very helpful...

It's worth noting that this spell can be cast while INCAPACITATED i.e, any non-stun effect, or something that breaks on damage. I've used this while snake wrapped, sleeped, cuccooned, and once to survive being 'sacrificed' on a H UP run. Love it :)

It says friendly target does this mean that a priest can cast this on my warrior tank becouse if it could than i would say that 5% reduced threat would be a good trade off for 40% less damage and as a good tank i could easily make up for it
