I'd recommend putting the poison on before you start doing the quest to kill a bunch of mobs and not be a derp like me and kill all the needed mobs and then realize you needed to put this on and then have to kill more. :)

You do not need to slow down your damage in fear of killing the needed mob accidentally. After some kills one of the attacked mobs will tell his secret and your char will automatically stop making damage.

If you have a follower with you, you may need to dismiss him/her so you don't kill the orcs too quickly.

One question, since you're suppose to "beat" it out of him, how does casters accomplish this? As a shadow priest, I can't "slow down" my spells, they are what they are. I don't have a melee weapon to auto attack to get the information out of them.
Ok, got part of it figured out. I coated my weapon with the poison right after getting it. Nothing was happening. I re-coated it while fighting and all of a sudden, even with casting spells, I started interrogating them and they were giving me the responses as if I was using a melee weapon.
Also, wanting to test the theory about having a follower with me and killing them too quickly, I kept my follower and (after re-coating my weapon) killed them normally, getting the interrogations and after a few kills one, just as my Mind Flay hit him, started talking and spilled his guts, as the saying goes. So, casters can do this easily (just remember to coat your weapon after you engage the first shattered hand) and you can have your follower with you the entire time.
Edit: Alright, bringing my 5th character through and thought, what the heck, let's try it again coating it before engaging. And it worked. ? This time, I did walk into the area where the mobs are before coating my weapon. No difference with the speed of the kills. I had my lock, with Voidlord and follower out. Killed as though it was a regular quest and not worried about the interrogations. The last mob started talking as soon as my Immolate hit him. So, apparently, you don't have to engage first, just be in the area first? Next character I'm going to coat my weapon right after I get the quest.

As a mage you can keep polymorphing a target to apply the poison. It took a few minutes but that rabbit finally talked.

Make sure to pick up Extrinsic Motivation at the same time, as both quests can be completed together. The key to completing this is to DPS *slowly* - wait for the dialogue of the NPCs to reveal whether they have been "motivated" or they will not cooperate.

This is one of the quests in a chain that will grant at it's conclusion an Outpost Building Assembly Notes and the toy Mystery Keg. This quest is only available if you have built the Brewery (Hearthfire Tavern).

In addition, via this quest line you will get a follower for your garrison - Hulda Shadowblade / Dark Ranger Velonara (H)/Hulda Shadowblade / Dark Ranger Velonara (A). This follower is also available from Nalya Battlehorn (H)/Deluwin Whisperfield (A) in your garrison for 5000g if you have built a Smuggler's Den and do not intend to change it.

The Mystery Keg can only be obtained if you have built the Hearthfire Tavern (Brewery) instead of the Smuggler's Den as your Spires of Arak Outpost. If you have already selected the Smuggler's Den, you must pay 5000g to switch outposts (You can get 1000g back at later, as I've noted at the end of this comment). This can be done by speaking to Taskmaster Gornek (H)/Lieutenant Willem (A), who will give you the option to pay the fee to switch.

After building the Brewery Outpost, you must complete the following quest line:

After this quest line has been completed, you can obtain the quest Not In Your Army (H)/Cleaning House (A), which will grant the Mystery Keg toy as a reward.

NOTE: Completing No Time to Waste (H)/No Time to Waste (A) grants Outpost Building Assembly Notes as a reward. This can be used to purchase blueprints from Torgg Flexington (Warspear)/Kinkade Jakobs (Stormshield). You can get blueprints you don't already have instead of purchasing them with gold.
However, if you already have all the blueprints, purchase any of the following blueprints to vendor for 1000g:

If you're doing this in Legion to get the toy like I am, you must unequip your weapon and multiple pieces of gear (4 for me) in order to be able to not just 1 shot these guys, otherwise you can't get the info you need from them.

As a 110 BM Hunter in Legion, I had to un-equip all of my gear, dismiss my pet, switch to Survival, equip Talonclaw, and dismiss my bodyguard. Then it was just a matter of hitting the Shattered Hand NPCs (not using any Talents) until one of them decided to talk...

For my level 110 demolock (iLvl 930), I simply dismissed my demon and equipped the Soft Foam Sword. Previously, one hit from this sword would bring an opponent down to 10%. Now it's not so cut and dry. It does work, though.

Use the sword and auto attack. It takes a bunch of hits but eventually the orc spills the beans... and you don't have to go naked and get rez sickness.

So.. it's now BFA and you're wondering how to get this done?

The Soft Foam Sword has become a toy - and for me at least - didn't proc the poison quest item. Naked me 1-shot the mobs in a single punch so I did the only thing I could and killed myself. Literally.

Take the rez sickness, and those 20k hits you were doing will become 1k hits, allowing you the time to get the quest done.

Going from titan slayers to naked orc brawlers is a bit degrading, I admit.

If you are doing this with too high lvl to not oneshot anything even naked.
Pull a big group and use non-dmging spells.
As a 120 BM hunter Tar Trap did the trick :)

So I never got Draenor flying....decided in the lull of BfA to come back and get it. I am a 120 paladin....to get this to work I had to coat my weapon then use hammer of justice(stun) to start combat and then just healed myself....that worked.

On my 120 mage, I was having problems with this, foam sword wouldn't work, etc.

I discovered that if you polymorph mobs, and kill other mobs near them, the sheep will give up the information eventually. :-)

For any Paladins doing these quests for whatever reason but are too high level and one shot these idiots, you can use Hammer of Justice, Arcane Torrent (if BE) and Hand of Hindrance to make them talk without killing them

Guys if you are 120 or later higher u dont need to die or unequip. Just buy the Whole Body Shrinka near Ogrimmar and use it. You then can attack all the mobs easily.

As a 120 holy pally, I just applied the poison and then cast Hammer of Justice on an enemy. He gave the info immediately.

For DKs coming back to this content and one shotting everyone you look at, use Chains of Ice repeatedly and they'll give up the information. Have fun!

If you are completing this quest at a much higher level, there is good news! Your non-damaging abilities have a chance of causing the orcs to talk if you have the poison buff on. Just engage the target, turn your back to them so you don't hit them, and cast any non-damaging ability you have at your disposal. For my warlock, Shadowfury managed to do the trick.

If you're a 120+ (or whatever comes after BFA) Druid and nakedly one shotting mobs like I was, just use entangling roots. It'll proc the quest poison and do no damage.

Yes, you can do this quest without removing any gear. I just did it on my lvl 120 warrior, just remember to put the poison on your weapons before you start attacking! It took awhile but it still worked!

Best Hunter ability for me was Hunter's Mark - it has no cooldown, and can be spammed repeatedly on the same mob until it speaks the truth!

All you need to do is auto attack when you are over levelled for this quest. They will respond as they die but eventually you learn the identity of CV. You don't have to worry about auto killing them.

Doesn't seem to be working in 9.2.5. Killed probably close to 30-40 and applied repeatedly and nothing at all. Will just skip the rest of the quest line and move on to nagrand to finish my final 1.5 levels for Chromie.

As a Hunter you can spam Hunter's Mark, takes less than 30seconds! Using Freezing Trap and Tar Trap also count as a hit

In the current patch, 10.0.5, I used the toy Soft Foam Sword first and then applied the poison. Repeated it in some mobs and eventually got the answer needed for the quest.

Non damaging abilities will work. Interrupts, Taunts, slows. Make sure to do this with the poison applied.

This is my last vial of wracking poison. We use it to extract information from prisoners. It is... potent.

Coat your weapon with it and head into the Shattered Hand camp just ahead. Engage them as normal and demand answers - the poison will take care of the rest. I've had enough of these orcs.
