The Fear that Vor'thik Fear-Shaper uses is miserable in this area because of the proximity of lots of other mobs. It can be interrupted or you can use stuns or silence to keep from pulling the whole area. They use it enough that using a PvP Trinket isn't going to cut it, although an Undead may have better luck because they have Will of the Forsaken.

The drop rate appears to be fixed. I killed about 9 to get the 4 drops.

First of all the drop rate is in no way fixed and that goes for several quests in this zone. And yes, the fear here is very miserable unless you're doing this as a group.

After over 1500 quests I just don't have the patience anymore.

Doing this quest as a boomkin, i used a combination of entangling roots and running to a certain distance once they started casting Fear. It worked for me. Not sure about drop rate on the item yet, will update once I figure it out.

After 4 kills of nothing dropped, I got 2 in a row, looks like its a random drop rate.

If you work the area over by the Wake of Horror (57.43, 13.85) there is less chance of getting feared into a group of mobs.

I found the drop rate to be almost 1 in 2 or 2.5.

(Don't forget to pick up your Klaxxi Enhancement first.)

As with much of WoW, hygiene helps--keep the area nice and clean. Your goal is to give yourself the safest possible area to be feared in.

Stay on the edge of the Horrid March (I was at 56, 16-20ish) and work from the outside in. Trim it of the Frightened Mushan, the little packs of Nagging Dreadlings and the Dread Lurkers. Not a bad plan to take out any Dreadsworn patrolling the perimeter. (Stay away from the blades; they won't follow as long as they do it.)

Then kite your Fear-Shaper as close to this area as possible, and when Fear starts gearing up, run for the Horrid March like a scared little girl. (Before he makes you run like a scareder little girl, I mean. But hopefully you won't run into anything because you cleaned it out.) AoE the backup band as needed/wanted.

Most of all, be patient. And no matter what, keep running back to the Horrid March perimeter. Worst case, it gives you an easier rez spot. :-)

There is a nice hiding spot @ 57, 11. I laid in wait there for the varmits to re-spawn and eventually got what I needed. Only one Dreadsworn patrolling that area. Hope this helps!

As a druid, you can use Entangling Roots and spam Wrath. Their Fear won't reach if you entangle/wrath from a sufficient distance. Of course, then you have the misfortune of having about a (literal!) dozen other mobs ganging up on you.

As a resto druid with only 4 ranged spells, I was dreading this quest. But I did what you said and dragged the mobs to a desolate corner I cleared out, and didn't get feared once.

I killed 8 mobs to get 4 drops on my i469 Fire Mage - never got feared once.

I'm beginning to wonder how legitimate all the qq'ing and FUD is on these WowHead quest comments. Seems like every time I get a quest and look it up here, someone is crying about how long it took them, or how many times they died, or complaining that Blizz must have stealth-nerfed this quest recently because they are having a hard time with it. Vote me down if you want, but I prefer comments that are helpful *and* truthful, like the one (of many) that I just gave. This game is *not* hard, folks :)

This quest is a load of BS. Took hours to do solo as a BM hunter. Complete waste of time. Each enemy mob is some sort of World Boss you need a raid group (or six) for, and the drop rate is horrendously bad. Handed it in for practically no experience. Yawn.

An interesting challenge for an 89 rogue. Of course they will fear you into 316 other mobs, but then you can Vanish. I was ready to use Gouge to interrupt but you need to have the right amount of energy available and of course you're in the middle of a fight, which makes that academic. Tried using Kick and it worked about 50% of the time.

The first real problem I had was waiting for Vanish to cool down, which added 2 minutes to each attack and each time you use it, you've failed to kill the target, so start over. It gets frustrating after awhile and would have taken a lot longer if Kick didn't kick in sometimes (sorry). The second problem was one that hadn't even occurred to me. My reasonably-well-geared 89 had no trouble with these guys one-to-one (although it was usually two-to-one because of the density of the mobs), and I'd get one down to 20% and then he'd run away! Of course I couldn't run after him because I'd taken the trouble to pull him away from the 2,739 other mobs in the area waiting for me to come visit! Not that many mobs run away from a good fight.

I had the Iron Mantid enhancement and it sure had a reel purty graphic but I just didn't notice any benefit from it. I went back through the Combat Log and it didn't show up there or in the General Log. Maybe it gives you a psychological boost. Possibly you get a tax deduction on April 15?

On the other hand, 259,600 XP and good Klaxxi rep, as well as about 44,584 XP per Fear-Shaper almost makes it worth while but if you don't need the Klaxxi rep right now, come back with your Isle of Time gear on and spank these half-bit schmucks.

One thing I found that works well doing this quest is to ignore the first magic attack they throw at you and save your spell interrupts for their Fear attack. No matter how many interrupts you have available, they're always on cooldown when they cast Fear. BTW, I leveled one of every class through here.

This... dread amber you brought me has been twisted. It is concentrated fear.

The Vor'thik know this well. Their kypari has been completely engulfed by sha, and they use the dread amber to quicken their own swarmborn.

Bring me the crystals used by the Vor'thik fear-shapers in their rituals. The Klaxxi will study them and decide on a protocol for disposal.
