I really kinda loved this quest. Having consequences for your actions, or at the very least, the appearance of consequences is awesome. You just killed someone known by everyone and in town to boot! And now you have to fess up the authorities! Makes sense!

This is a critique of one line of the writing, not of the action of the questline. The rest of his lines made sense. This one just took me out of the moment.

"Your heroism is budding"
Can you imagine anyone else who speaks like that?
Does this sound like the man who fought the Lich King?

"much earlier than even I had anticipated"

Who else is anticipating this budding?
What was the initial timeline you suspected?

I know we don't get choices in (almost all of) our quests -- we can't choose a bad man's path like Arthas did -- but it would be nice if the game didn't whack me over the head with how I'm always going to be the hero or in the process of becoming the hero.

Likewise, NPCs have seen their leaders turn evil. Why would they be so keen to label anyone "hero" these days? A "thank you" is enough. Or better: questioning why I took brute tactics over CCing the mage would have been better -- it would be enough for him to suggest that I must always be mindful of the road my choices take me down.

Note that one of the previous quests in the chain had an NPC chide me for being nosy. In a game where there are no questline choices per se, being chided, being warned, being confronted despite being on rails is better than being acknowledged as the unquestionable, unfailing hero.

I was achievement hunting and did this quest as a 110 Paladin armed with the Ashbringer. My head hurts now due to the space-time disruption.

Turning Yourself In

Report to Highlord Tirion Fordring at Hearthglen in Western Plaguelands.

Description

So... you killed a member of the Argent Crusade, inside of Hearthglen. Usually that's not smiled upon, even in self-defense.

I recommend you come back to Mardenholde Keep, and turn yourself in to Highlord Fordring. Hopefully he will hear you out, and will be sympathetic with your situation. I hope I haven't gotten you in any trouble.
