Located in the second entrance on the map going left to right, you want to walk onto the bridge and turn to face the left side. If you have collected the Lava Oil from the Searing Flamewraith mobss (in the far right entrance, run inside and jump off to the path below you, you'll see them running around), you should be able to mouse over the chest. USE THE LAVA OIL BEFORE YOU JUMP, or you wont be able to use it and will die. Additionally, have your hearth/tp ready.

Enter, turn right, and continue on to kill the Searing Flamewraiths for the lava oil. What is NOT clear from prior comments is that the chest is BENEATH the lava, and is NOT visible from above. If you have a crashin-thrashin toy or something similar, you can run it off of the bridge to look around prior to jumping. Lastly, the oil only lasts 30 sec,while the chest takes 10 sec or so to open; best to know EXACTLY where the chest is prior to jumping.

Even at 110 use the Lava Oil. After opening the chest hearth out. You will find it difficult to find any place safe
enough to regroup near the lava, the walls are all pretty steep. I used my Direbrew's Remote to get out since I
was saving Jewel of the Depths for my last BS quest but some of you won't have one, so hearth instead.

Requires the completion of Strange New Ores to loot.

As of 8.0 the chest is empty.

EDIT: 30.07.2018:
Tried again as someone said that they were able to loot it today but once again it was empty, I'm making a ticket asking about it right now.

swam in the lava to find chest - no such chest exists. can you be more specific on where this place is. thanks.

I tried to be sneaky and do it on my pally without the Lava Oil. It says you cannot do that while you are immune. Once my bubble wore off I popped Shield of Vengeance but each tick of damage interrupts you looting the chest. You need the Lava Oil.

The oil stacks up to 10, so if u want to be safe, just get more of the oil, as long as you use it before the last one runs out, you can swim around in the lava for 4-5 minutes.

Personally, I farmed 3 oil, ran out of the cave and back in the other entrance to the left, used a crashing trashing toy to see where the chest was, used to oil first and then jumped in. Had plenty of time to swim over, use a new oil, loot the chest (chest has a long opening time like an arena chest) and then used a new oil and had plenty of time to get a HS out.

the chest is under the lava, it is not very visible but passing the mouse through the lava, you will notice that it is there. You can not open it because the lava interrupts you, that's why you must use the lava oil, which you get by killing Searing Flamewraith, they are near the cave that are around, it has 2 or 3 lava oil, you take it and then You jump, it gives you enough time to open the chest, good luck!

I found the chest at 37.70 50.14 in the lava, near the cul-de-sac. This at the left side of the bridge, all the way near the wall. The tip to use my Crashin' Thrashin' Racer for recon was a winner!

After reading through multiple posts concerning the Time-Lost Chest and the Scroll it contains (Plans: Blazing Rapier) I decided to do some testing on gathering the Lava Oil, the location of the chest, and the process of opening/looting it. Information confirmed::

The Lava Oil can be acquired at any time by anyone, as long as you can kill the Searing Flamewraiths.

The Chest is not visible from above, but CAN be located by the Gear Icon that appears when you mouse over it, while standing on the bridge above it. This bridge is located in the Slag Pit, and you will be facing the Quarry Gates from the middle of the bridge. The Chest will be to your left, in the lava channel below. This is the farthest-left bridge, inside the farthest-left tunnel, from a position facing North while inside The Cauldron

Trying to access the chest WITHOUT using the Oil results in a variable Cooking Time depending on how much health you have. Attempts to Hearth out will fail unless you can bubble.

Lava Oil lasts for 30 seconds, and extra applications must be started BEFORE the Timer runs out. Damage will interrupt the application, and it needs to be working BEFORE you jump in. It takes about 3 seconds to apply and if the Timer runs out before the new one takes effect... see Variable Cooking Time above. While under the protection of the Oil, you can use a Hearthstone.

The Chest takes 10 seconds to open, the plans should be lootable immediately, and you can hearth if there is enough time left. Otherwise, apply another flask, then hearth, or swim to the far right end of the channel and drag yourself out.

I think we need to clean this up a bit. There are three entrances near each other. You are interested in two of them. The middle entrance is at 47.47, 46.75. You start here. Go in and to the right and farm the Searing Flamewraiths until you get a Lava Oil.

Now LEAVE this cave entirely. As you come out, to the right is another cave slightly lower. 45.81, 49.39 Go into this cave and go straight, under the blocks hanging from ropes, past some oil barrels and walk off a slight drop. Past a slave worker (yellow) and onto a bridge. As you get to the bridge center, turn to the left. You will see the lava ends. The chest is down there.

Make sure your camera is in all the way so you can see the chest under the lava.

The lava potion has a cast time so use it BEFORE you jump. Then jump and loot the box and hearth. Very easy if you follow my instructions.
