Found on the southern island of Shimmering Expanse, Vashj'ir. The turtles are rather easy to find and kill. And there seemed to be quite a few. Though the their main drop, the tongue, is used for Tender Baked Turtle it is not really worth the farming time for anything but the cooking achievement, The Cataclysmic Gourmet , Since the fathom eels are alot easier to fish in Tol Barad and will give a significant larger bonus than the tongues will to agility.

Seeing that the comments regarding the Seabrush Terrapin, which also drops Giant Turtle Tongue, stated that it had a lousy drop rate I decided to conduct a basic experiment.

I went to all three areas where each turtle species are and hunted 10 individuals from each kind. This is what I found:

1. The Seabrush Terrapin dropped 2 Giant Turtle Tongues out of 10 Kills. There were not that many in the area.
2. The Speckled Sea Turtle dropped 6 Giant Turtle Tongues out of 10 Kills. The area that these are found in are
quite plentiful.
3. The Softshell Sea Turtle dropped 5 Giant Turtle Tongues out of 10 kills. As in the first case, there were not
that many of them but are in a wider area with a lot of hanging kelp beds. You have to swim around a bit to
find them. The surprising thing is that there was a group of 3 in a unit that swam past me. You hit one
and the other two will attack. Don't know if this grouping was intentional or a fluke.

This, along with the other comments regarding drop rates mentioned by other players, I conclude that Wowhead's figures on the drop rates of the Giant Turtle Tongues are inaccurate. If you want to grind for recipe ingredients for this item your best bet is to go for the Speckled Sea Turtle. The Seabrush Terrapin does indeed have a lousy drop rate, and if you are intending to farm for the tongues, I would avoid this species altogether and go for the Speckled Sea Turtle, there are beaucoups of them.
