Quite tough boss. Is a beast so can be hibernated, scared. Soloed as a 60 feral druid for fun, but would be difficult without some kind of kiting for other classes that cant hibernate and heal themselves.

In Zul'Gurub, at the bat boss, High Priestess Mar'Li I think. Doesn't she say something like : "Shadra, make of me your avatar!" when she shape shifts?

I think Shadra is connected to the darkspear/winterbark/zulian trolls, she is some kind of boss for the trolls or their killing machine maybe.

I think the Primal Spider God is called Shandra, not Shadra. But I may be wrong. The other Primal Gods that I can remember are Shirvalah, the Tiger God and Bethek, the Panther God. Interesting thing to note is that these gods are only related to Troll culture, and from what I've seen particularly jungle troll culture, and perhaps forest troll culture.

Just soloed as a level 53 hunter with poor gear, full BM spec.

I cleared the entrance to Shadra'alor and kited Shadra all the way out and circled around Valorwind lake until she died.

My pet was always attacking adding to the DPS but not tanking. Mostly the pet was just backup incase she reset. Also, intimidation is a great kiting tool if concussive shot is on cooldown.

Extremely easy for warlock, just keep her feared and dotted and she will die eventually. I soloed her with level 54 warlock.

This mob can't be tamed right? I'm not sure if anyone has tried, my friend thinks he can tame any beast and is trying to level up to get this.

I have a bet with a guy from work that says this thing can be soloed by a 60 mage. Trouble is, my mage is 70. Somone try it for me :D

Soloed Shadra as a 49 Hunter.

I cleared the entrance to Shadra'Alor & then summoned her, Turned off growl on my pet and had it add to DPS after about a minute of kiting her.

Kited her along the road leading to Revantusk Village, By the time I reached Revantusk I had gotten her down to 20% or so, The local guards finished it off leaving a large red spider corpse in the middle of Revantusk Village, Had a few dumbfounded onlookers congratulate me.

Note: I had to go through 3 greater mana potions aswell, So if you plan on kiting her, bring some along.

Soloed her as a 52 Balance Druid. Took about two to three minutes, one Greater Mana Potion and all my "cooldowns" . Hits hard (about 400 damage on 4000 armor), but if you're quick with rooting her she's really pretty simple. For the last third of the fight I just kept her rooted with Inspect Swarm up while I regenerated enough mana for a Wrath+Moonfire combo. Just kited her around the lake and I got her on the first try. Good luck. ^^

Very easy to solo as a frost mage. If you have 3/3 permafrost, you don't even need to kite her far. At level 52, I just kited her around the small pool next to the altar. Took a little while and I had to use one mana pot + evocation, but it was entirely doable if not downright easy.

Soloed as a warrior -- make sure you have a restorative potion ready (removes a poison every few seconds), because she applies poisons repeatedly during the course of the fight.

Easily solo'd as a lvl 60 lock and could have been done earlier without too much more trouble, just let the Felguard tank her while you summon an Infernal on her head, then dot her and let the Infernal beat her to death, heath funnel the infernal as needed. Took less then 2 minutes to kill.

Soloed as a 54 feral druid.
Started with regrowth rejuv, wanked on him in bear, bash entangle heal, bear pew pew frenzied reg, bash entangle innervate heal, more bear pew pew, aggro a random spider, war stomp entangle shadra hibernate random spider, pop a mana pot, more bear pew, bash entangle shadra, hibernate random spider again, go oom, doh, keep CC up wait for mana pot and heal + bear form mangle goodness to finish off shadra :p took around 7 min, pretty hard, remember to keep faerie fire demo roar up, and abolish poison when youre in human form.

She's still elite as of patch 2.4.
I was roaming The Hinterlands and saw here at the altar, some Horde must've just summoned her and dies, I suppose. Piece of cookie kill as a lvl70 but she dropped nothing at all, not even a grey.

Hey peeps. I'm really bad with numbers so not sure what patch we're currently in, but it's the pre-WotLK patch with the retridin boost.

Anywhoo, back to topic.

Last night I solo'd Shadra as a 51 Retridin thanks to their now very good talents.

What I did was I popped Concentration Aura, Used Hammer of Justice, then Judgement of Wisdom using Seal of Command, which always crits when the target is stunned or incapacitated,
and also, judgements give you 33% base mana back if you've got Judgements of the Wise.

So what I did was Judge as often as I could, and then spamheal myself with Flash of Light the rest of the time, she was four levels higher so she could land crushing blows which was abit harsh, but after 6ish minutes I finally nailed the bastard.

Suppose this guide isn't helpful to alot of you, but for Retridins it works pretty well.

So to recap, Hammer of Justice as often as you can, Judge as often as you can, and then heal yourself til you can heal no more.

Good luck you other classes out there, hope you find your own strategy.

I solo'd Shadra as a level 46 survival hunter. There are several important items of note about this encounter:

The hit points for Shadra given at the top of the page are incorrect. Her hit points as of 11/29/2008 were over 19,000.
Shadra can swim.
If Shadra's target becomes unattackable for any reason (feign death, actual death, etc.), she will instantly reset back to her spawn point without regard to any threat caused by anyone else. So, if your pet gains aggro, you must regain it before your pet dies; otherwise, you have to leg it back and start over.
With the reworking of the potion cooldowns in patch 3.02, you will only be able to use one potion during the fight. As such, Aspect of the Viper is indispensable when used wisely.
If you are attempting this at a low level, your pet will be your primary source of damage. However, keeping ahead of Shadra means that your pet will lag behind and disappear unless Dash is on autocast. Cower is also essential (see number 3).
If you have any skill at kiting, Shadra isn't your biggest concern, it's those friggin' wolves, stealthed or not, that stand in the middle of the road. Make sure to clear them out on your way to Shadra'Alor, and turn on Track Hidden if you're near where the Silvermane Stalkers are.
If you want the NPC guards finish her off for you, in order to be able to loot, you must have done at least 50% of the damage. I had to kite about 5 laps around the area north of Revantusk to get that much damage done.
If you kite Shadra to Revantusk Village, once you find yourself headed down the Overlook Cliffs, turn on Track Beasts to watch out for Gammerita, an aggressive level 48 turtle. The rest of the turtles are neutral, so no worries there.

Basically, kiting Shadra as a Hunter at a low level is all about aggro management between you and your pet and mana conservation, just like every other solo encounter. Just keep aggro and don't get hit and you're golden.

Solo'd this as a 53 Prot Warrior. I just kept full sunder up, kept rend up, Shield Blocked whenever it was up, spammed revenge and shield slam, and used Shield Wall and Last Stand. I built up my rage to near full with the surrounding mobs (used bloodrage right before the 10 second summoning cast) and used a Major Healing Potion, although I still ended up dying from a poison tick once Last Stand faded.

They need to put a despawn timer on her (or at least one that despawns her faster). I just ran into her at lv45 as a prot pally, and yeah, not gonna happen. Nearly gave me a heart attack when I was collecting eggs. Problem is, she hangs out near the middle of the map, and anyone without Divine Shield probably wouldn't have survived.

The previous quest "The Spider God" identifies her as such and even the <tag> at the bottom of her name says <The Venom QUEEN>

I was quite surprised to see that she had been down-sized from a huge spider to a normal size spider. A real shame, considering that she's "the Venom Queen".

Soloed as a 48 hunter. Just kited her back to Raventusk and let the guards finish her. No mana pots are needed, if you are good at managing your aspects. I used Cheetah most of the way using keeping track beasts up to make sure I avoided the other mobs.

solo'd as lvl 50bm hunter in boa gear. Just kited around pond, kept up serpent sting and did concussive shot whenever i could and did as much auto atttacking as possible. Made it where pet attacked but did not take agro.Took right under 3 min.

Warning: Other players can, and apparently WILL steal this mob from you if you're doing the quest.

Just had a Paladin come in and steal the mob from me for 400 EXP. Had to go all the way back to Sen'jin Village because of him.

Soloe'd her as a 49 Hunter in patch 4.0.1
Just turn on the aspec of cheetah, hit her with arcane shot and concusive shot (this one as soon as it's cooldown is over) and run around the lake. That take time but will get you the venom.

So I turned to my boyfriend just before summoning her and said "I know you hate spiders, so prepare yourself for a HUGE SHOCK."

Frantically we were looking around, waiting for the MASSIVE SPIDER to reveal herself to us.

After about half a minute I noticed this tiny red thing crawl from out of the pond.

....

She's been nerfed! :'(

For all the running around this quest line requires, I'm disapointed the epic end fight has been taken. Just not the same when my bear form is bigger then her!

Taming this pet is now much harder due to the Npcs that spawn.

Here's how I tamed her. lvl36 Hunter
- Placed a freezing trap close to her spawn
- Move quickly to her
- Start taming her and hope the Npcs don't break her.

This mob is only there if you have the questline, I tried the quest 8 times with no luck on the distress beacon dropping and eventually she stopped spawning for some reason. I spent forever looking for her before I even realized that she's not there unless you start the first quest in Hiri'watha Research Station given by Darkcleric Marnal, his coords are 31.58

She's huge again like she used to be so the nerf bat was reverted.

She doesn't drop any loot now though, just disappears when you kill her, so if you're hoping to farm her for a distress beacon, don't waste your time like I did. She doesn't drop anything at all anymore.

As of 6.2.2a, 62 kills in 7 days, never a loot drop, not one thing, not even Pocket Lint, which would at least be something.
