As of 1.12.x, he is soloable as a Hunter. There's a half building nearby that you can climb and shoot from. Attacking him this way causes him to single pull. If you bust a health pot halfway, you'll be able to outlast his gimpy frostbolt spam. To loot his thingy, aggro the mobs onto your pet and then command him to attack something far away. Then you find a safe spot and FD.

The ability to climb on that building seems to have been removed. I just attempted several times to get on with no luck. At one point, I got onto something, but attempting to jump onto the building from there proved that there was a hidden wall.

However, this could be an issue with draenei only.

As for today, 2007-03-25 i managed to jump into the house.

If you stand at 46.88 u can jump too the house easy, i did it in first try with no problems (apect of cheetah), as for hunter (Orc).
Without it i tryed, but u can fail to jump, must be very careful. So with speed boost, 100% u can get there.

Then again, maybe a mage can do it with Blink? I dont know,try? :)

idk but it seems that if u just wanna kill him and not care if u die its not hard for rlly any1 who can fear to kill him just fear him and start beating him to a pulp he dies u die u rez u get drop u run lol but if you dont wanna die try jumping onto building

Think its possible to kill him with seed of corruption and felguard? I let my felguard take agro of everything then i cast seed of corruption on like 4-5 of skeletons and let them detonate which blasts them all.

I told my wife the trick about the wagon when we were lower lvl. Araj basically kept evading at certain points in his health, so his health never went all the way down.

I found out his hp sucks, so I thought we might be able to blast him to death without the mobs crushing us first. That doesn't work.

It takes time to loot him (a bar). You can't just res and auto loot on his corpse. You have to clear the mobs unless you can find some way to pull him out from the mobs and kill him...

If anyone on your team is on the ground when you (a hunter) try to solo from the wagon, they will draw mobs.

Wagon trick worked for me. Facing Araj from the wagon, he'll tend to evade a little if you stand on the left side. If you stand on the right side, at some point you'll get those dark skeletons aggroing you and casting shadowbolts. Got him close twice solo, but skeletons messed it up. So I got a hunter to help me, we were both 56. We cleared the road, killed the dark casters, then ran back for the bridge. The melee mobs chased us a while. When we got back, we hopped on the wagon and burnt down Araj pretty easily. It was hard to loot the thing, I sent water elemental one way, hunter sent pet the other. I just managed to loot, but died, and hunter kept getting interupted. It was a little chaotic, and by the time I ran back to play decoy so hunter could loot, it had despawned. We were ready to try again, but we ended up finding a full group to do it the normal way.

While standing on the left side of the wagon did allow me to get Araj about 1/2 way down without pulling anything else the 3 skeletons always started shadow bolted me once I got him down and I was unable to solo this. Ended up getting a group and knocked it out. The XP for the 2 quests associated with this is very good! Something in the neighborhood of 23K. -- 58 Hunter

Just soloed him as a 59 hemo rogue, as of patch 2.3.

I cleared a fairly large path to the north of Araj to give me room to fight. Pulled him with my bow from max range, ran way back to get out of range of his first cast, then sprinted back towards him. He's stunnable and vulnerable to mind numbing poison (this helps a lot), so it's easy to stop his casts. He periodically summons a few spirit wolves...when they appear, kill them ASAP (they have very little HP and will die to pretty much a single special attack) since the damage they put out adds up really quickly. If you're an engineer, a bomb or grenade will make short work of them. Make sure to keep an eye of Araj while killing the spawns so that you can kick his casts.

I burned evasion twice (using prep) and a health pot, but it shouldn't be too difficult if adds are killed quickly and Araj is kept stunned and kicked.

Well im a lvl 59 Fost mage (which i think sucks, used to be fire LOVED IT, changed thanks to stupid fire immune instances)

I went threw all the posts here and read up, tryin to find out how i might be able to do this by myself since its hard to find a grp since BC came out. but anyways i try lookin for the house, and i think i got it but couldnt get on top of it, and then i looked for the wagon and i was lazy and didnt want to clear all of the things by it after i just did next to the house....but then sadly i thought about the one time use trinket that the gnome in the inn gives you thats does 1200-1800 acrane damage and lowers Araj's attack by 25%http://www.wowhead.com/?item=12650

So i went and did that quest got the watches and went back to the house cleared again and one of the Skeleton Warlords was in the way, killed him and he ended up dropping the Assassination Blade http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13036
which was pretty cool.

As soon as he was gone i mana up, i was standing right on the hill by the house north of Araj, i threw in a frostbolt pulling him by himself used the item doing about 1500+ damage summon my Elemental to frost down the wolves he summons and with in about 40 secs killed Araj the Summoner first try by myself no potions or anything. looted him got a nice hunter helm "of the Monkey" http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10272 and the 2 items i needed for the quests.

solo'd as a lvl 60 combat rouge
used 1x scroll of agil V, 1x scroll of str V, 1x scroll of stam V, and 1x winterfall firewater

1). attack from south there are only 2 skellies guarding 1 patrol and 1 in lane and to give u more fighting room kill the 2 in the house behind.
2). pull him with ur ranged attack the first 1 or 2 spells may hit but you should be ok when he gets close enough go to town
3). use adren rush to start off, when he summons wolves pop evasion and blade fury

wasn to bad only took me 3 min but i did use a super health pot

Easily soloed with 60 pally (10-0-41). Attack from south, just as truhorde says, all you have to do is sweep 2 or 3 easy mobs, regain hp/mp and hit for Araj. I have aggroed him with frost resistance aura on - I used exorcism, then the attuned dampener and then simply stood in place and waited until he uses all his mana and moves towards me. When he approached he died in 30 seconds, I survived the fight with half of mana and 3/4 of my health, didn't use bubble nor LoH. No adds aggroed, I have simply mounted and left the place.

Killed him in about 30 seconds with me (56 Prot Paladin) and a 61 Frost Mage. Pulled a couple of his guards first, then leveled him. )The mage did most of the damage.) : )

Just soloed as lvl 60 pyro mage. cleared some space around him and killed the 3 attendant mobs before he appeared. popped frost ward & dampen magic, went to max range then pyroblast, followed by fireballs until dead. He only lasted about 20 secs.

He summoned 3 shadow wolves, but 1 arcane blast sorted them. I only dropped about 20% health, mainly due to frost ward and dampen magic... Easy solo at lvl 60. Didnt draw any additional mobs with him, but i would imagine it would have been much harder if i had.

Oh yeah, had combustion running too, maybe another reason why he dropped so fast... 3 crits for 1500+ each.

Solo'd as a 54 BM hunter. Pulled one pack of undead, one Warlord and then pulled him away using line of sight.

Mend Pet and there shouldn't be any problems. Feign Death definitely helps with threat. He's extremely weak as of current build.

Easily done(1 death AFTER i killed him, then it ran smoothly) with a lvl 61 hunter, just come from the south, kill all guards there, then go to west, kill all there, then go direcly to Araj, of course, if there are patrol try to kill them, but make sure Araj dont aggro you, then your *beep*ed´. After youve tanken him down, then your gonna die from all the other mobs (the battle is about Araj, remember, ONLY ARAJ, nothing else), then you just start over from the start, just without Araj =D, well, 'nuff said, try it out yourself! =)

i found a cheap way to do this on my rogue (i died 3 times....)

a horde group (mind you, a PvE server) killed him, which in turn allowed me to loot the chest like item behind him.

Just soloed him as a level 61 warrior, protection specced, with about two thirds worth of outland greens.

He doesn't seem to be linked to any mobs surrounding him. I first took care of the pack of four regular undead (a flaming ghoul fellow, two caster skeletons and an executioner), then took out the pack of three ghosts and after that, took care of some ghouls running around a bit close.

I then pulled Araj with a gunshot, which didn't seem to bother the Skeleton Warlords standing nearby. Pulled him some distance away, interrupted his spells as much as I could (he's stunnable, helps a ton) and wasn't really impressed by his melee damage. As he's a caster, his physical damage mitigation is low, especially so with a full stack of sunders. As a result, even a protection warrior hurts him quite a bit. Thunder Clap takes care of those pesky dogs he summons. Even though they don't hurt much, you'll want to take them out as they eat up shield block charges rather quickly.

I finished with about 60% of my health left. No sweat, really. In fact, easy enough to err, forget about using that attuned dampener thingy which I had saved for the occasion. Doh.

The XP for the Scholo key quest and the shard quest adds up to a bit over 30000.

To get the item from Araj, you basically need to:

Kill him (Araj the Summoner).
Loot the object (Araj's Phylactery) he spawns on his death.
You are done!

Quick info
Now to do this might be a little tricky if you are alone, now he is supposed to be a 2 man (or higher) "boss". Luckly you can solo him as a ranged class! With some DPS and smart use of enviroment you can solo him without a problem (at least no problem for a Frost Mage, probably Fire too :P)

I made a small video (50 seconds) how you can pull him and then kill him without any adds interrupting you! ;)

This may have already been mentioned but I was lucky enough to get there just as someone else had killed Araj the Summoner, so all I had to do was run to his phylactery and loot it, easy does it.

Just solo'd as a 61 Enhancement Shaman.
I tried the standing on the roof of the house method but he kept evading because of the adds he summoned.

As a last attempt I pulled him normally and just melee'd him to death easily, the adds that he summons can be kept busy with a Stoneclaw totem and Magma totem and the frostbolts with Earth shock and Grounding Totem.

I was able to solo him as a lvl 57 retribution paladin. It wasn't even that tough - didn't have to use Lay on Hands ;)

Pulled the few groups off around him leaving only 2 non-elite (lvl 60) ghosts as his adds. Use Holy Wrath every time you can and throw heals while theyre stunned.

Remember to use Attuned Dampener on him.

Araj's Phylactery is lootable even if other people killed Araj.

I happened upon a paladin in the middle of killing Araj and figured I could just wait for Araj to respawn when I saw that the Phylactery was glittering. I figured "eh what's the worst that happens? It says no?" and gave it a shot. It gave me items for both Araj's Scarab and Alas, Andorhal. And no, I didn't ninja the pally's loot. I waited till he was done looting and had left before approaching, though it is possible he didn't loot Araj.

Looks like he may not drop corrupter's stones for 80's anymore. Can anyone else confirm?

He does drop them but I cannot reproduce the scenario that made him not drop it the first time. I think there may be some sort of engagement timer. This seems unlikely, maybe it was just a glitch

Just solo'd as a lvl 59 prot pally, not as hard as I thought. Didn't even use bubble or Lay of Hands.

But in all fairness to Araj, Paladins have the upper-hand on this poor guy, I probably could have killed him sooner.

I used Attuned Dampener (the item you gain from the repeatable quest), along with a few Holy Shields and Exorcisms, plus Arcane torrent (Blood elf racial, very handy). Worse comes to worse, just use Turn Evil. Shouldn't need to though.

Easy kill.

Wow, that wasn't as hard as I thought. Soloed as a 56 shadow/disc priest. The house strategy really worked! Absoltely no adds. Just had my sheild up as much as possible, had to use a flash heal, his/her ghost wolf things were a bit of a pain, but they disappeared after about a minute so didn't have to kill them.
Gotta love disc talent "reflective sheild" reflects 45% damage back at the attacker. Very handy,lol.

Here's a nice story of revenge:

I was looking to find a group for this guy, when I read the comments on this page that I could loot the Phylactery without killing him.

Anyway, I see a blood elf pally killing him and I decide to help him out (Human priest) and he thought it would be funny to bubble himself and make me pull all of the aggro. I somehow manage to get all of the aggro back onto him, with him dying and me looting Araj.

It was nice, and the pally got what he deserved. :)

Gotta say this fight was fun as a 56 destro lock, I knew it would be tough solo, but I was prepared to try. I looked up at this, after reading comments I decided to go with the northern house tactic instead of getting my 80 pally. Worked amazingly well, I stocked up on soul shards, started the pull with curse of elements and spammed "immolate -> conflagrate -> 2.8sec Soul Firex3 -> repeat" I waited for him to hit me twice before popping Voidwalker Shield, (So my talents could heal me), took about 20 seconds. As for looting him I just sent voidwalker in, told him to attack a far-off critter, and ninja'd the jar.

You probably already know, but from this patch, and perhaps since before, this entire courtyard is soloable for a lvl 70 BM hunter. Just use aspect of the beast, explosive trap, snake trap, bestial wrath, and then spam volley's. I've only got 7500hp, but I could make this with only one lifeblood, mostly for comforting reasons, and then spammed away with volley's. I, myself, tanked, while I slowly put down the hp of everyone in the courtyard, and my pet just took them down one at the time.

And by entire courtyard, I mean entire. Araj, the three roads with all skeletal acholyte/executioners in each road, just as well as the three warlords, all the spectral attendants, all nearby ghouls and those two abominations that wandered into the courtyard while I was at it.

Easy as pie.

My 58 unholy DK and ghoul died with someone else already aggroing him. I was running around in Andorhal when I saw someone fighting him. I lent a hand. All of us got killed. Died again running away once I respawned, too. Had to kill a Scarlet Crusader (actually a Knight) to get another ghoul.

Solo'd him tonight with a 57 enhance shammy. clear out the mobs around him carefully, mana up, pop him with the attuned phylactery and beat him senseless. the mini-wolves were annoying, but not terrible.

A month ago I soloed him on a prot warrior, I was level 58-60 at the time (Don't remember the exact level), was much easier then I thought.

On a fun note, I kited him to Tarren Mill once and he had some fun.

Just solo'd as a level 55 prot warrior, no heirlooms, just regular gear - no enchants. No buffs except Battleshout.

Cleared all the surrounding mobs, then pulled him into the lil house to the South (to avoid respawns/patrols).

Used the Dampner, hit Recklessness, popped D-Stance + Shield Block, revenge crit + SSlam crit + revenge crit and he was at around 25%.

Was shield bashing the Fbolts and just T-Clapping the adds.

Shieldwall was overkill, and the pot that I lined up along side Last stand + Lifeblood wasn't needed, nor were the bandages.

Nice exp and reward though =)

Just soloed as a 56 Feral druid. (With heriloom armor and weapon)

Was quite easy, first cleared the mobs around him, then I went Prowl in cat form, feral charge and Pounce, building up combos for Rip and Rake, with mangle on to do damage. Then went Bear Form, interupting his frostbolts of Skull Bash and Bash. Using feral regeneration when/if needed and swipe to get those pesky wolves out.
