Lol at the Northrend thingy :PThat actually seems like a really good idea... I had the fortune to not be around during the in-game pandemic, but I've heard stories about it, and I can imagine what it would be like.Very good blog post :)
Interesting.I'm curious if they will use research from the Zombie Infestation that took place last October. I remember Stormwind seemed deserted at times. And also, people who fought the plague at first eventually became overwhelmed as the disease strengthened.
Problem is, Corrupted Blood was spread by "people being ^&*!s". I don't think you'll see as high a percentage of people doing this "in the real". Digitally, who cares? We respawn, life goes on. Real world I can see things spreading because "we didn't know", but not as much as it did when that event happened when ZG was released. There were people who were hearthing out DURING THE FIGHT with Hakkar to spread the crap. 20man raids were setup to keep the infection going on a few servers (Infect all the main cities)
Yeah, there is no risk of your life ending by having your character ignore the quarantine order. A lot easier to be reckless with a game disease than a real one.
lol, as if in real world, some diseased guy goes to a crowded place and yells "im infecting u all, suffer like me, Muhahahaha!"
Pay attention at the bottom, where the reporter references wowhead for the swine flu spell found within WoW. And notes its potential to cause a similar outbreak to the ZG one. Nice to know wowhead is the source for reporters to link spells in thier articles.
"Because of this, the New England Journal of Medicine is pressing for Doctor to be the next Hero class in the next expansion."Could you imagine?
I have to say that people on the internet don't behave the same offline, but all the same, an interesting read, and while I don't believe it was an accurate model, it is still one resource for investigation.
yep it is a good idea and as said they have known about this since the hakkar outbreak. Seen it before in science magazines. It gives a pretty good model to use in disease outbreak on how people will spread it and by the model they can predict on how they can contain it faster. Was there then hakkar disease was able to spread beyond ZG was kinda funny people in IF was totally infected all npc also. All lower level player and especially the ones who could not heal was really foked. They died fast hehe:)Also it spread to other servers through BG i heard and the other faction could get infected by neutral npcs hehe.
That article is rather misleading. Only a few servers had a widespread outbreak before Blizzard hotfixed it. And it says four million characters were infected? There weren't even that many players at the time! Unless they're counting the same person getting infected multiple times. And it's implying that the new disease debuff Swine Flu can be spread between characters and start a new in-game plague to study, but this new effect is just a regular disease that happens to have that name, and the "outbreak" is simply a short-duration debuff on your own character that will occasionally proc.
@Vexis, I never claimed the article contained accurate info. It is an interesting, slightly amusing read, but that's as far as I'd get. Plus the press always buffs the numbers, to make it more impressive. We all do.
Very Intresting.I do agree that it was better than any model or questions they can ask random people, even if its not real life.
Old news on a new disease.Meh, I never realised that people could find this useful, perhaps WoW should release another disease.
That's pretty far out there if you ask me...
Hmm... how the heck was there an outbreak of the Corrupted Blood?
The warlock and hunter pets carried it out ZG before the developers fixed it.In a heavily populated area like Org or IF, it's able to transfer before it expires.
