Very nice!Especially like the rare hunter pets list.
Great guide. Learned about some rares I didn't even know existed.
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
I think it's intentional that there's a ton of rare spawns--they grant a ton of xp, which is great for leveling, and add to the flavor of the zone. When I took the last two screenshots, I came across those rare spawns instantly...and then found a few more. I keep wanting to add in more zone-wide spawns...current mob is the former lvl 63 in WPL that smashed faces in by Uther's Tomb.
Excellent guide as always, perculia, and it's nice to see that our evil nice CM is coming down from her throne to do some guides with the mortals! Also, despite playing way too much back in Vanilla and BC, I didn't even know about many of these =oVery good idea to include the list of Hunter-tames, aswell.
So i just thought this was worth mentioning, but there is one rare in Northern Stranglethorn, a hunter tame, that you did not cover. He is named Mahamba and has the Sub-title the water spirit, tameable as a crocolisk, a rare blue similar to those found during the Viziers quests in uldum. He spawns in the northern part of the river.
Ugh, I am one of these rare hunters. And though I like it, it's also almost killed me. I spent 9 months doing bi-daily checks around Sholazar for King Krush before I finally downed him. Then when they expanded our hunter stables, I had to start all over so I could tame him. I was expecting there to be another achievement in Cata and then there'd be a meta for getting all three. And it could have awarded a title, like ", Big Game Hunter" or ", Nesingwary's Pride". But I'm kind of relieved that they didn't so I didn't have to go through that ordeal all over again for a new batch of rares. I still haven't found probably a quarter of the new guys. (and still no TLPD!) . Ah well. Great guide in any case.
@akarilwolfgirl There are several rare mobs that share skins with common mobs. I debated putting these rare mobs in but had to draw the line somewhere. For example, Mahamba looks exactly like the Tol Barad crocs according to Petopia. Although, it is neat that there's a trio of spirit-god pets in general.http://www.wow-petopia.com/browse/rare.html is a good list of all the rare hunter pets, both with unique and non-unique models.
Great guide, also in addition to _NPCScan , an addon that works well for tracking rares that is also on curse is _NPCScan.Overlay, it shows all of the rare spawn points for tbc, wotlk, and cata rares on the map highlighted. (It even works with showing them on carbonite map if you use carbonite.)
Nice Guide. Kudos :)
Most excellent. Spent two days not long ago, camping the Tiny Shale Spider spawn point for my rogue. Now that I have a bit of time, I need to figure out what to go for next!
A slight correction to the section on Molten Front:Karkin and Skarr are NOT spirit beasts, although they are hunter tames. They are a regular crab and a regular cat respectively.
Is Ashelia my soulmate? Because my newly dinged shaman is named Aschel (different spelling of ass in swedish) xD
Ah i see. I understand now. Thanks for clearing that up.
Great guide. I would have been quick to hunt all of the rares this time around if they'd been involved in another achievement, but I guess Blizzard thought it was too brutal (and seriously, some of them really, really were - Vyragosa, I'm looking at you.) And really, Pebble is making more angry than Frostbitten or Bloody Rare ever did, so there is that... There are a few rares I aught to hunt still, but they're not high on my priority list. Just thought a clarification might be in order - only Night Elves (as far as I can tell) are capable of ghost-flying up to the ledge to catch Jadefang. I've also seen suggestions of using rocket boots in hopes of a backfire that allows you to Shadowstep/Disengage onto the ledge. I suppose those suggestions might be beyond the scope of the post since there are obviously easy links to the page itself.
Very well done guide AND quite useful! /applause
