Gear Guide: Twinking with Pandaria Gear
2013/01/21 at 1:03 PM
We've talked a lot about rare spawns and their fun vanity loot in Mists of Pandaria, but there's another reason why you want their loot as well--they drop high ilvl gear with low level requirements. This gear is perfect for making a
very powerful 85 twink
, as well as boosting your alts through Pandaria if you found questing tough before--
Spear of Xuen
, anyone? There's even some MoP gear level 80s can equip!
In addition to dominating battlegrounds, soloing old content is pretty fun--especially if you're wearing gear some level 90s wear, but don't have to worry about your combat ratings decaying as you level up.
In addition to rare spawn drops, many of these items are BoEs, so you can see the average realm buyout price on our Quick Facts, which is powered by

PvP Cosmetic Enchant at 2200 Rating
Totally agree in principle, but I'm not sure we need to keep a hurdle in, and adversely affect the PvP game, just to give people something to shoot for. We'll have a cosmetically different enchant available at 2200 in 5.2, and going along those lines we're looking at what potential future cosmetic rewards we could add for various ratings in the future.
Ghostcrawler has posted many 5.2 class balance changes in the past few da

PvP Gear in 5.2 and Beyond
2013/01/17 at 8:16 PM
Blizzard just released a blog about PvP gear moving forward in Mists of Pandaria. They acknowledge that players who start early have an advantage, that there's a big gap between the power of Honor and Conquest Point gear, and that the 2200 rating requirement on gear creates a sharp gearing divide.
Here's how they plan to address issues in 5.2 and beyond:
2200 rating will be removed from all PvP gear.
Gear will be available in four tiers:
crafted Dreadful Gladiator
, ilvl 476 Malevolent Gladiator (Honor Points),
(Season 13 Conquest Points), and Elite Tyrannical (after 27,000 Conquest Points have been earned).
Team Rating will gradually increase during the season for teams and players that continue to compete in PvP.
Players in 5.3 will not need to meet the seasonal currency requirement to purchase Conquest Point weapons.
Once the seasonal currency amount is met in 5.3, players can purchase C
Developer Watercooler: Encounter Tuning by Watcher
2013/01/17 at 11:20 AM
Lead Encounter Designer Watcher just posted a developer blog explaining how and why Blizzard changes encounters once they're live, as well as how that affects everyone from bleeding-edge heroic raiders to those enjoying LFR.
He specifically looks at
Gara'jal the Spiritbinder
Will of the Emperor
--encounters which either suffered from players using unintended tactics or were simply tuned to be more difficult than thought after internal testing. If you're curious how Blizzard decides which part of encounters get hotfixed and how they come up with their specific solutions, this blog is for you.
Oh, and we also really like the eyeball hanging out with the Azerothian watercooler at the top of the blog.

5.2 PTR: Audio Spoilers and Transcript, Throne of Thunder Weapons
2013/01/16 at 7:01 PM
A new build is hitting the 5.2 PTR tonight, and we datamined
Shaman Tier 15 models, Lightning Forge weapons, new vanity pets, and more
. We found so many weapon models for
Throne of Thunder
that Fewyn made a video of them! Several of these have great animations--the daggers have blinking eyeballs and wiggling handles, while the offhands sprout wings.
We also found a ton 5.2 audio spoilers covering Jaina, Anduin, Lor'themar, and more--over 40 minutes worth of dialogue. We've provided a rough transcript, breaking it down by character. Jaina and Lor'themar are both going after the Thunder King, Anduin and Wrathion are discussing politics during the legendary questline, the Shado-Pan launches an assault, and new developments are unearthed about the Titans and the Mogu.
It's a Pandaren board game. The object is for both players to win.
To what end? What are you two working towards? Using a Mogu weapon forge whose powers you barely understand.

5.2 PTR: Spirit Beasts, Item Upgrade Hiatus, Revised T15 Set Bonuses
2013/01/15 at 11:43 AM
There are three new spirit beasts on the PTR--spectral porcupines. These pets are similar to the Firelands tames in that they spawn neutrally, are visible to anyone, can easily one shot players if not kited properly, and are invulnerable to being tamed unless they're below 20% HP. Thanks to user

5.2 PTR: New Elite and and Collectible Battle Pets
2013/01/14 at 12:06 PM
Today's news is all about battle pets on the PTR: the Pet Journal has been updated with over a dozen new collectible pets for 5.2 (including the adorable
), and we also have information on the new elite battle pets!
Elite Battle Pets
Elite Battle Pets are a new type of rare pet challenge in 5.2, similar to
Pandaren Spirit Tamer
in 5.1. The catch is that you'll be fighting one elite pet, instead of a team.
So far we have found at least one elite pet per zone, and defeating the Elite Battle pets completes
