Get Married In-game, Set a World Record
2012/02/07 at 10:27 AM
Over at ZAM,
the whole staff is participating in setting a world record on February 14th
on RIFT. Anyone who gets hitched on Valentine's Day in RIFT will be helping RIFT set a world record of the most virtual marriages in a single day in a video game. Five of the lucky newly weds will even earn some special accolades from the RIFT devs themselves.
The idea of a MMORPG being in the book of world records is beyond cool to me and so is coming together as a community on a singular day, so I'm all for it. You can even get married using a trial version of the game.

As an added bonus, comment in this post how online gaming has played a role in your relationship (or friendships, if you're going stag this holiday)! One winner will receive their choice of a Blizzard store pet.
News Round Up: 4.3.2, Darkmoon Faire, and D3DB
2012/01/04 at 1:41 PM
Due to yesterday's downtime, we were a little slow on announcing our contest winners and getting the new PTR information out. However, we should make that up with some exciting news today that has to do with Sanctuary!
I have some awesome news that I've been holding in for a few weeks:
D3DB has joined the ZAM Network
! These guys were heavily inspired by Wowhead when they launched their database years ago and have become the best Diablo III resource around, so it's great to see it come full circle and get to team up with them in an official capacity. We'll be working closely with them as they are a fellow Blizzard fansite. (And it's Diablo III, I mean, do you know how awesome that is?)
On the WoW front, there were some difficulties this month with the Darkmoon Faire; dailies were not resetting, some monthly quests didn't either. Blizzard has patched it up, though, last night.
Make sure to check out our guide to how to get the most tickets

Star Wars: The Old Republic Early Launch
2011/12/13 at 2:24 AM
For many MMORPG fans, the excitement is boiling over as the last few hours until early access to Star Wars: The Old Republic opens up. Wowhead will be quiet about it--after a quick reminder you should check out
for all your database needs. It's literally the same team with the same level of commitment to both the game and the website.
We wrote up a more in-depth post about our mission statement a couple of weeks ago
In addition, volunteer Siha put together a great guide from a World of Warcraft guru's perspective. So if you're looking for a guide that tells you what this game is like on WoW's terms,
this is an excellent guide for you
With that out of the way, this was the last SWTOR update.
Well, maybe until we do a joint contest with our sister site or other shenanigans!
Introducing Torhead for Star Wars: The Old Republic
2011/11/20 at 11:49 PM
A couple of our favorite administrators here at Wowhead have been in a galaxy far far away, toiling away overtime on a special project of ours as of late. You see, we love MMORPGs and we're always trying out other games besides World of Warcraft. As we got further into the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta, we
liked what BioWare was doing, so we decided to bring what we've learned from Wowhead to new database:
Torhead replicates the quality you've come to love on Wowhead. Featuring the same
we've been offering World of Warcraft players for so long, the only difference between the databases is that this one is for SWTOR!
With that said, please join me in welcoming Torhead to the Wowhead family. This is the first website we've released since Wowhead that's shared our name and we're really proud to be its sister site--both in name and spirit. It's a huge step for us and one we're all excited to see happen for BioWare's new epic.
And if you're not into Star Wars: The Old Republic, don't worry! Wowhead's focus hasn't changed and its staff is still fully engrosse
SWTOR Beta Key Giveaway
2011/11/14 at 12:13 PM
Star Wars: The Old Republic is coming out next month and the beta has been in gear for quite some time. Many of the Wowhead staff members, myself included, have spent their share of time with the force lately and loved it. Unfortunately, the beta has been hard to get into for many fans beyond a weekend stress test. This week, however, we've got a chance for you to get in easily!
Our parent site,
, is giving away 25,000 beta keys for SWTOR on a first come, first serve basis. Yes,
keys. We'd love for you to support them by entering their giveaway and trying out SWTOR. All you have to do is sign-up for a ZAM account and you get a free key instantly sent to you--while supplies last, of course.
Please note that this is a key for their next testing phase, which will start shortly--BioWare will be emailing you an invite based on the email you redeem the code with.

Oh, and as a disclaimer: this post isn't the place to start SWTOR versus WoW wars. Save that for another website; we love all kinds of MMORPGs here at Wowhead.

League of Legends Sweepstakes
2011/08/20 at 3:56 PM
It's been a while since we here at Wowhead have hosted an old-fashioned sweepstakes. Thanks to the wonderful folks at
, though, that's all about to change. From this weekend to next, we're giving away prizes--all in support of
League of Legends
What's League of Legends, you might ask? Simple: one of the best games out right now. It's been taking the gaming community by storm recently and even the pro-gaming circuits are playing it. With dozens of champions and intense gameplay, LoL is one of those games that's easy to get into but incredibly hard to master. In other words, it's addictive--and what gaming's all about. You don't have to take my word for it, either;
it's free to play so you can start whenever you'd like
and see if it appeals to you.
Anyway, about that sweepstakes we're hosting. Thanks to Riot and Razer, every day for the next seven days, we

BFF Report - Mass Effect 2 - The Arrival DLC
2011/03/31 at 5:33 PM
I don't know about you guys, but I am a huge fan of the Mass Effect IP.. I even own a book that I've read at least 37% of, and I never read books! However, this newest DLC, which coincidentally is also the last, kinda makes me go :|
Have any of you tried it? What are you thoughts on this compared to the previous DLC?
