Rotation & Abilities
With the onset of Legion, Marksmanship is essentially a new specialization, with little other than names in common with the previous iteration. The Legion version of the Marksmanship spec is based around a new mechanic which consists of proc'ing
, using Marked Shot to convert
into Vulnerabilities, and then casting buffed
s in order to take advantage of those Vulnerabilities. Through the use of talents, the spec is fairly versatile, having possible builds for single target damage dealing, as well as some burst AoE options. The spec has lost most of its core CC abilities, including all traps, as well as several more specialized utility abilities, such as
. The movement specific abilities have remained largely untouched with the exception of
Aspect of the Cheetah
being changed to a movement speed cooldown.
All races, including Gnomes, can play Hunters.
Marksmanship Hunters use bows, crossbows, and guns.

What Makes Marksmanship Special
Marksmanship has embraced the class fantasy of the ranger, drawing inspiration from the likes of the Windrunner sisters, Sylvanas, Alleria and Vereesa. Marks hunters look for vulnerabilities in their targets, mark those vulnerabilities, then take aim with carefully placed shots. Players can customize their Marks hunters to fulfill several variations of the fantasy: they're the only hunter spec that can function with or without a pet; they have several options including undead pets and a shadow-based shot for those more interested in following in Sylvanas's footsteps; and they have several choices which can convert the spec to either a carefully planned out long-range sniper play-style, or a quick moving spray-and-pray play-style.
Marksmanship Hunters have numerous vanity glyphs:
Glyph of Stellar Flare
Glyph of the Goblin Anti-Grav Flare
modify your flare,
Glyph of Arachnophobia
summons spiders with Dire Beast, and
Glyph of the Skullseye
Glyph of the Bullseye

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
All of these items are sold by

Changes in Patch 7.2.5
In Patch 7.2.5, Marksmanship Hunters received an overhaul to the balance of their core rotational mechanic,
, decreasing its effectiveness while increasing the base value of the abilities affected by it, which overall should not affect the spec except in moments of bad luck, when
isn't up. In addition, there has been some minor tuning to other abilities.
- This is a general aura which affects most of Marksmanship's damage dealing abilities, and has been increased from an 8% increase to a 12% increase.
- now increases the damage of
by 30%, instead of 100%.
- Damage increased from 275% of Weapon Damage to 425% of Weapon Damage.
- Increases the damage bonus of
by 6% instead of 10% every 1 second.
- Damage increased from 1000% of Weapon Damage to 1550% of Weapon Damage.
- Damage increased from 400% Weapon Damage to 500% Weapon Damage.
Soul of the Huntmaster
- Grants you the talent
Lock and Load
, allowing you to take another from that tier in addition.
Celerity of the Windrunners
grants you 15% haste for 6 seconds.

Questions and Comments
Until Mythic raids are released, all of the information contained in this guide will be in a constant state of flux. While it's unlikely they'll be changing any core mechanics of the class, we're still seeing many changes to artifact talents and general tuning of abilities. This guide will be continually updated to reflect changes and new ideas in theorycrafting, though it may not always be immediate, as implementing changes into spreadsheets and simulation tools can take time.
