The armor is nice, plenty of defense and stam, but the lack of any avoidance is kind of unattractive.

What you have to remember is this loot table is actually just Ony's loot tablefrom back in the day updated for lvl 80 with ilvl 232 gear so what ever the stats were on the old item (where itemization wasn't a BIG concern as it is now )+ alot of the raids back then required lots of different types of resistant, ony alone i had to bring 300 Fire Resist to the raid same with some fights in MC Nature resist for ZG and some fights in AQ (if memory serves me right) and frost resist for naxx (old naxx not new naxx).

It doesn't seem like a bad choice over either of those, although it is rather situational. The biggest problem is the lack of strength, which could lead to threat problems for some tanks. If you can spare the threat, I would at least look closely at it. It has more Stamina and an equivalent amount of avoidance as the Earthguard ring. That 700 armor is what really puts it over the top, it is roughly equivalent to 70 stamina in a primarily physical damage fight.

You guys aren't really getting the point of the drops here. Most of them are duplicates of her old self back in Pre-TBC. This item is an upgraded version of http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18813.

Now you may argue that having +25 of every resist type is a little weak, it is just following the suit of its younger version. A ring like this would have many good applications, it will fit in against any caster schools, especially the hard to resist ARCANE. Just because it is not BiS for a tank doesn't mean it has no uses.

The only problem with this ring is lack of STR. It has plenty of avoidance. 50 def rating gives as much avoidance as 48 dodge rating and also gives additional block chance

I can see using this ring, if nothing else, for Hodir and Mimiron where you want some resistances. This is 25 resistance you'll have on hand without hurting your tanking stats much, if at all. As stated the armor, def, and stam are solid bonuses on their own anyway.

As an avoidance / defense minimum tank (103.5% / 551), i think this ring is very decent. It allows me to bump up my EH, and continue to stack defense, which allows me to further re-gem to pick up other stats (like more threat for instance, or to continue to stack stamina, the gem no tank can live without). The armor/def stats here make this a very worthwhile ring, only supplanted when you get much farther into the end-game. I would put this and the triumph-emblem Clutch of Fortification as a great 1-2 punch for any progression tank.

thats the best ring in game anyway- 100 stamina, 700 armor, 25 to all ressistances and some defense rating

ok, do we really understand how "avoidance" works here? Defense as a flat stat breaks down and buffs every other "avoidance" stat you have, at least to a certain degree. Maybe not as much as having a parry, block or dodge rating applied directly to it, but it still does more than having no avoidance at all. saying it has no avoidance is mis-stating the itemization, if I am not badly mistaken here.

Any ring, trinket, or other piece of gear I have gotten as a bear on my main tank (Artaurean, Trollbane) with defense as a stat has given me more with the dodge it had alongside it than I could account for, even by running the math for my feral talents and all my agi; I don't get block or parry, so the defense "buff" of my other stats got nerfed. The avoidance is there - you just have to know where to look.
