Where did you read about guild macros? This is the first time I've heard about that.
There are two types of macros, Character-Specific and General, which are shared across your own account.

Quite honestly, many players in WoW actually hate those mass guild invite spam posts. They are like a stranger coming up to you in the crowded mall and saying "Come to my house for dinner, I have great food" and are quite off-putting.
A better suggestion would be to read the advice in
this post
, while it is an old post, it still provides solid advice.
Then I would suggest that you check out the other posts in the
Officer's Quarters Section
on WoW Insider, as there are more posts there about Guild Leadership and effective recruiting as well as effective retention of guild members.

A macro to advertise your guild is basically just an in-game way to copy and paste a pre-written ad for your guild.
Something like " is recruiting new members. We are a friendly leveling guild with 58 active members. New recruits get access to our level 17 guild perks and a 5g per day repair allowance. We have weekend group dungeon runs and this year feature an in-game Secret Santa! pst me or Hisface for an invite."
You write that out, check it for spelling and such, then paste that into a macro that says
/2 is recruiting new members. We are a friendly leveling guild with 58 active members. New recruits get access to our level 17 guild perks and a 5g per day repair allowance. We have weekend group dungeon runs and this year have an in-game Secret Santa! pst me or Hisface for an invite.
Using that macro should post the announcement to Trade chat.
You have to make sure it's not too long to post properly, and PLEASE don't use it more than once every 5 minutes at most.
Hope that helps.

Well, if you do not mind getting unpopular with some players, there's
http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/superguildinvite
which personally I do not mind as much as guild advertisements in /trade because it's much easier to block guild invites and also does not bother those who already are guilded.

I HATE invites without so much as a contact before hand. This is the kind of thing that even if I might otherwise have been interested in a guild will turn me off it in record time. I'm the kind of player that will join a guild just because I like the name. But never with that kind of invite spam.
You also have to recognize that you will wind up with all kinds of people in your guild if you use this tactic. If you're wanting to gather a certain kind of individual, this addon is NOT the way to do it.

For a more experienced player, the best way to know you don't want to be in a guild is to see them spamming a recruitment add in trade chat. I mean, the recruitment macros that are whispered are truly obnoxious, but even mass spamming in trade chat indicates a guild run by an unseasoned GM, which is pulling extremely new and untested players in great quantities. Anyone who has any experience and is serious about raiding, about group PvP, or even about having a good social atmosphere will avoid those guilds because there's no filter on who comes in, and likely no core group that has experience organizing anything.
The only exception I would make to that rule is occasionally I see a guild looking to fill a specific raid spot who will announce it in trade once or twice. That's generally ok, especially if people already know the guild by reputation.
