Paladin SOLO PvE LvL'ing spec help
Return to board index
I'm currently playing solo Paladin (retribution) on Ravencrest. (started for a week ago)
And I've been "creating" my own spec so far, but now I've heard that protection lvl'ing is more fun to do, and possibly much easier.
So I wanted to know if any of you guys could create or find a good spec for protection paladin lvl'ing (haven't been able to found one myself) and help me optimize my dmg/playstyle. I want to be able to do some decent dmg as well. As well as being able to survive/get away from a gank.
I'm currently lvl 44 draenei.
Thanks in advance
There is no right way or wrong way at your level to do things.
Tanks are made to hold threat not dps. IF you want a tank that does good damage then I would suggest a Blood Dk. They do some crazy damage as tanks. Or go ret.
I've leveled as both Prot and Ret paladins and I personally much prefer leveling as Ret. You have a higher dps output while still having enough survivability to pull small groups of mobs without worrying. As Prot, you would have more survivability, but the damage output isn't as high, so things take longer to kill. It really does depend on your preference.
You did mention getting ganked, however, which makes me think you're at least somewhat interested in PvP. My preference for PvP would probably still be Ret, if not Holy, just with different talents/glyphs. If you have a pocket healer, the Prot would probably be preferred. But if you're going solo, Ret still offers access to a lot of the utility and survivability with a much higher damage output.
At any rate, there is far too much relevant information on these "builds" to include here. But the two main resources that I use and have always worked out well for me are
Check them both out and navigate to the Paladin sections. There is a ton of information that will answer your questions (even the ones you don't know you will ask yet).
My main is a 478 Ret pally, and he was amazing to level. I also know the way of tanking but ret is definitely better. If you want just an aggro hold trick while in Ret (Don't queue for tank or anything like this) but you can use Righteous fury and reckoning while in the retribution spec. But, that aside, the pure dps from retribution is great! Play what you find fun, don't fall into the specifics of thinking you're forced to play like others. Experiment, have fun, and good luck!
