Sticky Screenshots

Good Evening wowheaders!
I'm really confused with the wowhead stickied screenshots, and it's that i post a screenshot with good graphics and there is already a screenshot that is in sticky but doesn't have good graphics. I know Screenshots Manager can mark a screenshot as sticky but they should mark as sticky the best quality screenshots.
I have a Screenshot for example
Animated Warrior
's screenshot that i posted this morning, mine has good graphics but the one marked as sticky doesn't, why mine didn't get sticky, i know it isn't automatic but Screenshot Manager should check that out.
I don't want to insult anyone here, i'm sorry if i did.

The criteria for the screenshot that gets made "sticky" isn't the best image or the highest quality but the one that makes the best thumbnail. For that purpose I think both those images are good.

I thought no one would understand what i just typed but i see you did asakawa!
I understand but the other screenshot has something included in there, mine just has the temple behind it.
Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Yours is great, there's no doubt. The other is pretty atmospheric and cool though, it almost looks like a painting in the thumbnail.
It's totally cool to ask for a Screenshot Manager to take a look at it (I'm sure one of them will see this thread soon and take a look at it). They might agree with you or might want to keep the current one. If there's others that you would like them to look at then throw them in an email to and I'll forward them on to the Screnshot peeps.

Thanks for your help asakawa, what really got me confused is that i got a screenshot that has better quality that the stickied one and mine didn't get sticky. But now i understand what you guys want in screenshots.
There are a lot of screenshots that they should look at but i'll keep it like that, thanks!

Also keep in mind we receive on average over 100 screenshots a day and, especially right now, with a new patch, a lot of the database doesn't have screenshots and the first to be approved is automatically sticky. So, in my experience thus far, I may not immediately notice that a new shot I'm approving is better than a previously approved one that was automatically stickied. I'll try to take a look more often but you're always welcome to email feedback on something in particular or I'd even be okay with you reporting the stickied image and providing detail as to what you think is wrong.
The example you provided has been made the sticky now. Yours was more center, focused and showed more of the NPC's animation. As asakawa mentioned, both made equally good thumbnails and that being the case looking at the overall picture quality beyond that was appropriate.
Edit: Also, you have my email. If you want me to look at something feel free to shoot me one. Just, keep in mind, it may not always produce a favorable result. Don't hold it against me. ;)(##RESPBREAK##)2060##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

It was my understanding that higher quality pictures are preferred as the sticky photo. Ones that are cropped properly, proper lighting, highest quality graphics, interesting to look at, clearly visible, and has no UI or nameplates in the shot.

All that is correct but it also should look good as a thumbnail as that is how users will first see it.

Content can give the new patch screenshots another look next week, since there should be less data work going on then. It doesn't take much time to resticky a screenshot so feel free to email feedback about specific ones.

Thank you Sas! I don't want to report screenshots because of sticky, i don't want to get free rep just because of that, i report screenshots only if they are wrong, the idea of emailing you is great.Content can give the new patch screenshots another look next week, since there should be less data work going on then. I will try and email you folks if i see something wrong, I don't like to give you folks a lot of work, so you wont see much emails from me.

You can probably tell by the responses in this thread that we like screenshots and think they're an important part of what the site provides for users. Don't worry about giving us lots of work, if you see something that can be improved then let us know!

I've also noticed that for a lot (if not most) of pages the sticky screenshot is anywhere from worse to far worse compared to other screenshots on the page, even in terms of thumbnail appearance.
Like baradiel I figured I wouldn't bother the Staff with it as it seems trivial compared to all the other work you guys must have laying around.
If it's really no problem than I'll keep that in mind if I come across situations like that again.

That's pretty much true but it's been a long time since i don't see those screenshots, i forgot where i saw them.

Yea i think so but you guys gotta understand me, i don't like bothering busy people. That's my only problem.
Also, i don't see it very trivial compared to my work because i have more time than the staff to put screenshots.

Judging from the replies it seems like this is an ongoing observation that happened to be reported during 5.2's launch week, instead of something related to new screenshots taken in the patch--so the scope of the project is a bit bigger than I initially thought. We'll try to take a look at popular pages, but if you see a grainy screenshot taken in Burning Crusade that should be replaced by one taken on a much better computer in Cataclysm, let us know. It will actually save us a lot of time and work.

Once again sorry I missed this one. In addition to the screenshot guide, I recommend looking at
my profile
. I've got quite a few tips there. For thumbnails, cropping and lighting trump graphics quality. Also keep in mind that when we do change a sticky, it can take awhile before that change is reflected on the site.

Hey adashiel, i never though you were going to post here, i admire you...
And i never though it would take awhile until the sticky gets reflected on the site, i though it was like submit, like posts on the forums...

I've been pretty busy lately, which is why Sas has stepped up to work on the screenshot queue. As far as stickies are concerned, I
think
the screenshots statistics on your profile update more quickly than the site itself does.
