Tiller's Farming is sucking the life out of WoW

I don't mind the planting and harvesting, but the number of weeds, npc's are just huge time wasters. First when you harvest, and then after you plant. We have had three good players leave WoW because of the grind of farming. I have three 90's, and it takes me 40 minutes to get my farming done each day. I now dread logging on the first time each day. I know you do not have to farm, but it remains the best way to get mats. The upcoming changes to farming are too little to late in my opinion.

I find it a stretch to believe people would leave the entire game solely because they didn't like the farming mini-game. It is only needed for a little extra gold, cooking mats that could also be bought on the AH and rep with a faction that doesn't even provide gear. And even with the faction you could do the dailies instead of farming. If you dislike it so much, why do it?(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##ElhonnaDS##DELIM##

Wow people will complain about anything. I also do 3 lvl90's farming each day but only takes max 5 mins per toon. If people are leaving because of something so trivial, they were probably on the verge of quitting anyway.

Songbell Seed -> Mote of Harmony -> Spirit of Harmony -> Any type of mat you need for any profession.
That's probably the reason most people feel it's necessary.
Cheers.

Enchant- Do a few dungeons or quests you haven't done- mats to make anything
BS- Go mine for a pit, all your mats there
LW- Kill some beast
Tailoring- Cloth drops everywhere
The max you can get in one day farming is less than 2 Spirits

Since i maxed out cooking and got exalted with every tiller sub-faction i dont even bother with that place. What do you need the mats for? Do some dailies and just buy the damn mats.
But here is a tip to make the planting stage go faster. Till then Plant all seeds first, then do all the weed-plucking (watering, poisoning etc) and then click on all "add-node-things" and bladestorm down all virmen/birds.

I forgot about the spirits- generally as a JC I don't ever have a shortage because all I need them for are the pets. I think that 10 minutes worth of farming for 1 and a half spirits is a pretty good return, though, considering how long it takes to farm the motes normally.
I usually plant the herbs now, since depending on how many lotus spawn I can make like 500-1000g a day from a full farm. I think it's probably the most cost effective money-making I do, in terms of time spent to rewards earned. Don't get me wrong- I will appreciate it when they do speed it up a bit, but I personally haven't found it all that time consuming as it is. Generally any birds or rodents that spawn I trigger all at once and then AOE them down, and the other conditions don't take much to deal with except those stupid vines.
I can totally understand people who are irritated by the vines- I am not a fan of them either. I just find it odd that based on such a small part of the game- like 10 min a day- someone would quit it entirely. I imagine that they most likely had a number of complaints about the game, and this was more the icing on the cake than anything.

Based on your luck, some days are just a little more irritating with farming than others. I just get annoyed by the chance that I rarely get parched or infested plants after I've gotten the irrigation and bug repellent items. Still, for a short amount of time for 16 motes of harmony it's really worth it.

it takes me 40 minutes to get my farming done each day.
I have 3 characters with 16 spot farms, 3 characters with 12 slot farms, 2 characters with 8 slot farms, and 1 character with a 4 slot farm. It takes me about 30 minutes to do my farm upkeep on
ALL
of them. If it takes you 40 minutes to 3 characters, imo, you are doing something wrong.
Here is how I do it.
1. Harvest crops.
2. Run Master Tiller.
3. Pull Weeds. Kill varmits.
4. Go buy seeds if I need to refill my seed stocks.
5. Plant all the seeds.
6. Do Slamming vines, then tug vines, stretch vines, and jump my runty plants.
7. Hit my sprayer and water jug.
8. Kill varmits.
But then again, I guess I have everything optimized down to the point where unless i run out of seeds in my bags, i don't have to leave the farm.

Hey Lone,
Just interested. What do you farm? Is it just Motes of Harmony, or other stuff?
Cheers.

I started off doing Motes, but after reading up on a blog, I found that planting the
Enigma Seed
on all of the plots that have access to the seed give me the best ROI for gold.
On a single character with all 16 slots open, I have been averaging 5-7 Golden Lotus a day. There have been a few days I didn't get any golden lotus, and days I have gotten as many as 13 from a single character.
As for the smaller farms, I use those to keep my main cooking mats stocked up for feasts. I hate spending money on something I can get myself in just a few minutes worth of work.
As for Motes, the same blog showed a great place to farm those as long as you hadn't finished the quest lines...and since I skipped that zone, I pop my treasure finding potions and farm for about 30-45min a day to get all the SoH I need.

I'm not gonna lie. I will agree the farming is a tad time-consuming (or at least a bit annoying and needlessly repetitive to a point)
This is actually why I decided to farm on only one character.
But sucking the life out of WoW? Like Elhonna said, that seems like a stretch. I'd put some consideration into not farming 48 plots of crops =). Cut down a bit - there are other ways to get your food mat fix if you really need it.

40 minutes? Wow, slow farmer indeed.
My farm stuff takes about 5 at the most, while the daily is another 5; only in the Valley for 10 to 15 minutes at the most.

They would tend to dis-agree with you there.
Thanks for explaining what you plant and why though.
Cheers.

RNG is RNG, that's what makes the world of Warcraft go around.

Some people just like to make drama, and make a storm in a glass of water. There's been players who've "claimed" they've quited or have had friends who quited, over BREWFEST NOT GIVING A UNIQUE STEIN ON ONE YEAR.
If that's not over-reaction, I frankly don't know what is.
That farming mini-game is:
A: Optional, since absolutely nothing requires you to do it. If you wanna get mats, there's better AND faster ways to do so.
B: Quick. No way in hell anyone is gonna swallow that it takes you 40 minutes to do it. Lonewolfe already said how much it takes him to do it with his many alts and I'm inclined to believe him, since I have 2 toons with 16 slots farms, 2 toons with 8 slots, and 6 with 4 slots, and at most it takes me 20 min to harvest and replant on all of them.

That is also outdated information. On one of the hot patches, they fixed drop rates for all of the "special seeds" You can check some of the blog rolls off UMJ and they will confirm it is most profitable to plant the enigma seeds.
