Todays World of Warcraft pvp is changed from what it was back in the days. Now we rely on burst damage rather than effective cc,avoidance and clever use of game mechanics like SW:D (shadow word: death) polymorphs (SW:D breaking the poly on hit)
How far back? Because prior to TBC it was pretty much a 1-shot gank fest for mages, rogues and even 2H enhance shams. Season 3 of arena was arguably the most balanced in that all classes had a reasonable chance of doing well and it was a bit more forgiving.
Today, arena is about popping your DPS macro and blowing someone up before they can do the same to you. 3v3 is not a whole lot better.
For myself as a 2,2k experienced player i have to come to point where i cant seem to decide whetever to stop playing or which class to play. This due to the increadible difference in classes now days.
Of all the things they homogenized I think they would have been better giving all classes some kind of healing ability and making healing specs into pure support roles that can only heal "sometimes" as a limited resort.
Right now, I have tried enhancement at 2k MMR in RBG, BM hunter at 2,1k MMR and resto shaman at 1,8k MMR. Enhancement turned out to be a huge letdown, i was lowest on damage and the only good thing i got out of it was the purges and flagcap interupts with magma totem/ wind shears and hexes.
I play enhancement around 2k and it's not the spec for those seeking to be heroes because you are right - damage output is a lot lower than what other melee specs bring...however...in an RBG enhancement shines by enabling other DPS to down healers.
An enhance, frost mage and any other melee DPS can bring down a pesky healer very quickly. No other class is quite as effective because we can attack and purge simultaneously. A mage spamming SS or a rsham spamming purge is a poor use of team resources.
After all, I didnt like resto shamans because you barely need any skill at all to play it, you rely on crits with UE GHW (unleash elements -> greater healing wave) and healing surge. The gameplay isn't rewarding enough.
I don't think that's an accurate statement because you would not survive an attack by competent DPS just by spamming riptide and GHWs for very long. With silences now affecting totems any shaman spec can be locked down by anyone with a blanket silence.
BM hunters along with warriors have been FOTM so far during mop, this is something that i belive they have deserved after ALL THOSE @#$%TY SEASONS for both classes
Very much disagree. Warriors have always been well-tuned for pvp and hunters are whiny but you seem to be forgetting how MM hunters were not too long ago.
My intentions with this post was to give my thoughts on what I have experienced, but i would also like to hear from you guys which classes you think gives the most rewarding gameplay.
When i talk about rewarding gameplay, i am speaking about specs that makes you feel like you actually EARN the win in arena, rbg or duel. Not some lavaburst spamming crap insta win.
Playing any FOTM class is not going to give you a rewarding pvp experience. I play enhancement because I know that if I beat someone it's not because of my class or being OP, it's because I outplayed them.
Other classes that are not fotm right now include rogues (ironically because they're usually overtuned for pvp), arcane mage and ret paladins. I have one of each and none of them are what I'd call "op" but they're all solid if you take the time to learn them.
I would like to add that i think warriors is the class atm that i feel like is the most rewarding one, alltho its FOTM...
Warriors have it very good in MoP and if you enjoy it then why ask? Just play.
I played a warrior from vanilla through WOTLK and found them to be a lot like enhance is right now - which is to say that were an unforgiving class. If you made a mistake or used your CDs at the wrong time you'd be fodder to just about any class with a root or snare ability - and you did not engage frost mages without a pocket healer. Today, warrior CDs are a lot shorter, no need to stance dance for key abilities and weapon swapping is virtually unnecessary.
