Diminishing Returns & Blood DKs
Return to board index
Today I was tanking on my 476 blood Death Knight for the Will of the Emperor encounter in the Moshu' Gan vaults.
We had several attempts on the boss but wiped every time because I kept dying, eventually I said that they could kick me because I was holding the group back, and they did.
My question is, why am I taking so much damage. I have a great Mastery Rating, Solid Gear, was flasked, and even pre-potted.
The only explaination I had for it was that I may have had Diminishing Returns. I had only heard of this once or twice before in my wow history relating to Blood tanking, but I believe it has something to do with my dodge and parry rating being close to the same percentage? Correct me if i'm wrong please.
So just getting straight to it, What is Diminishing returns in Blood Death Knights? Do I have it? (Parry: 22.54%>6.59% & Dodge: 8.06%>3.01%). And how do I fix it? Would be awesome to get an answer! ;)
Parry and dodge now work a bit different than in Cata.
Now you have to get as much parry as possible because it suffers less DR than dodge does. If you want to know the exact formulas just check on EJ, basically parry must be at least 2 times than dodge.
But I think that wasn't the problem. I also bet you weren't the problem in your group, I think the problem was your healers. In that fight bosses do something like 150k unmitigated swing damage every 1.5 seconds... That's a lot of incoming damage; you have to add 25% more damage incoming on gas phase.
So if you used all your CDs properly i think you are not the one to blame for your wipes.
On the other side if you didn't avoid all the combos you deserved the kick :P
DR isn't very important at all, but if you want to min/max, here's a macro telling you where your parry should be in relation to your dodge:
/run d=GetDodgeChance() n=3.22 if UnitRace("player")=="Gnome" then n=n-.01 end p=235.5*d/65.631440-((235.5/65.631440)*5.01-n) DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("Ideal parry for current dodge: "..string.format("%.2f",p))
Add a flat +4 if you're using Swordshattering. Mastery is far more important though, don't waste mastery to balance them.
I would guess like Italiandk that it's either you're not dodging the slashes correctly or it's a healer problem.
