How to kill a Shaman
Return to board index
I'd like to take a stab at something that will most probably go down in terrible flames, accusations of OP, various name calling, and pointless sarcasm but here goes.
What do you feel as a <spec> Shaman that biggest soft spots on you are (at the current state of the game (5.0.5)? If you were to tell your opponents in PvP how to best kill you (cue the 'click my name tag, press '1'' comments), how would they proceed? What should they look out for, and when should they NOT try to kill you (i.e. immunities, reflect, etc)? What methods kill you the best (melee, roots, kiting, bees, MC off the cliffs in EotS)? Which classes do you fear the most? What are your strong points? When do you shine in PvP? What can they do to counter this? How can your CDs be exploited? Do you suffer under mobility? and so on ...
Hi Poposhka, as a fairly well geared restoration Shaman I find it very hard for myself to die. In battlegrounds, no one person can kill me by themselves unless I screw up severely. But when 2-3 people get on me then it's really all about me staying calm and using my cd's accordingly. But, in arena, the methods that kill me the most are catching me unprepared for the burst to come. I find that I am very easily beaten when a switch happens on to me while I don't have Earth Shield or HoT's on myself and I get silenced. The classes I have trouble with are frost mages (If they catch me in a deep freeze and I have nothing up things get scary), Warriors (The pressure is intense if they can stay on me) and lastly Hunters (Usually not a problem at all but when they pop Stampede and other cooldowns on me at the same time I find my health drop WAY too quickly.) So to directly answer your question as to what methods kill me the best, whether you're ranged or melee it doesn't matter too much. It's more about getting me silenced while I have nothing on myself and keeping the pressure up. I will say that in Arena matches ranged characters are easier to Line of Sight and therefore stop lots of the damage. One of my main cooldowns is Grounding totem, and I have a talent that essentially makes my GT a 10 second cooldown. The biggest advice i'd have for you is to pay attention to when Shamans drop them and use an instant cast spell (like Ice Lance etc) to kill it instead of popping something big on it. (Polymorph, Fear, Chaos Bolt). I'll end this here but if you have any questions send a reply! :)
As an enhancement shaman I'd say that I lose battles where I am hit with a lot of front-end burst. I can typically survive and win battles of attrition, especially if I save my CDs.
Without doing something lame like a "one shot macro" (a macro that pops your DPS CDs and pvp trinket), the best way to beat an enhance is to CC them. We are, unfortunately, vulnerable to both melee CC (disarm, root, snare) and caster CC (silence).
What this means is that a silence is just about as effective as a stun since our melee attacks are classified as "spells" and cannot be used while silenced. Disarm is especially bad because we typically don't use weapon chains (well, I don't; too much of a DPS hit to mitigate the occasional disarm).
Enhance has no bubbles or worthwhile defensive CDs to speak of so there's no situation where you should run and take cover. It really boils down to a DPS race and who can time their CCs to get the edge in said race.
