Gearing up a new 85 quickly for MoP, PvP

Thinking of moving up a free account and getting a new 85 before MoP, is possible. Just wondering
what 5 man progression can be done at 85 quickly? Let's assume we are not in a guild or perhaps only have one geared friend or guildie queuing up with us in LFG.
Thanks for any thoughts on this matter.

Level up to 85
buy iLevel 377 pvp gear from the AH, along with any absurdly cheap 359 gear you can find.. a lot of pieces can be found for under 300g. Get your ilvl to 353
queue for 4.3 heroics
get a few drops
queue for LFR
spend JP and VP on pieces to replace whatever is your lowest pieces.
You can have a ilvl of pve gear above 370 in 3 weeks after you are 85, probably faster. The hardest part is you will probably need 1-2k of gold when you hit 85 to buy the pvp gear to increase your ilevel to get into the 4.3 heroics. If you don´t have it, you will have to run the older cata heroics which amazingly enough, are more difficult (many many more wipes) because nobody doing them outgears them. More than likely if you do the 4.3 heroics, the other 4 people will totally outgear them and make it easy on you.

You won't need to gear up for MoP, you will be replacing everything with quests in first zone.

This is not fully accurate. You are indeed correct that you will be replacing gear soon in MoP. However, from what I have heard the mobs in the early zones are tuned to ilevel 378. So a brand new 85 will need to do some gearing before hand OR have gold to spend on green drops off the AH, which are normally expensive the first month or two.
My strategy is that I have my main in high level purples and us that for the next expansion. Then I wait three months and buy loads of gear off the AH to make leveling my alts much faster.
Yup I do this also. And any drops I get from questing goes to alts if useable if not they get d/e.
But having them tooned to 378 is a little low ain't it?

In Beta, there are vendors that sell a full set of green 372 gear in multiple locations in Jade Forest and the very start of the Valley of Four Winds; I have a feeling after the pain in the ass that was Wrath to Cata, those vendors will make it to Live.

The devs have already said that the first zone in MoP is designed around ilvl 333 gear, because they have to assume that players will be coming as soon as they hit 85. Also, like in Cata, some of the very first quests require limited actual soloing. The first quest in Hyjal is to kill the rock elementals, but weaker players can use the NPC guards as tanks.
They also are doing the same thing they did with Cata, in that you will get your big stat pieces very early. The very first quest in MoP gives you your weapon, which has the most stats on it.
The real use in gearing up now is that you can vendor quest rewards (which sell for more) or DE them and sell the mats for huge HUGE amounts the first few weeks.

Pain in the ass from wrath to cata? That's laughable, you can go to hyjal and do fine with the freaking level 70 pvp gear.
With crimson on this, Full lv 70 pvp gear and got from 80-81 in no time while slowly upgrading.

The question is though why would you? I could understand showing up in Hyjal for the first time wearing level 80 pvp gear but 70? Thats just self torture.
The perceived difficulty was basically "Wrath babies" so used to group pulling and one shotting mobs that when they tried it in Cata they got a rude awakening. Hence "OMG its too hard"
What a load of kodo droppings! I have played every aspect of this game since 2.0 from hardcore to casusal. I took a fresh 80 to Hyjal with an average item level of 182 which consisted of nothing but quest greens from Northrend and it was annoying even on single pulls. When I took my main there its item level was in the 260 range and it was what one would expect dealing with normal quest mobs.
Please save us your generalizations and don't discredit players based on when they started, we have many great players today that started during Wrath.

I think the wotlk heroics were absurdly easy at the end of wotlk, which is what caused so many people to quit cata when the heroics the first month were very difficult.
But as far as questing, there was really not that much of a difference going from wotlk to cata. If you are talking about hyjal, I have a hard time remember any quest that was difficult. The only time I even remember something ´difficult´ was the aggro range of those troll archer guys near the top of the zone when you had to kill the deer. There was also the quest near the same area where you had to kill some fire lord guy that did an aoe attack that you had to run away from, but it wasn´t hard, it just killed you the first time because I was so used to ignoring those type of mechanisms in quests.
The initial mobs in cata had 30k hps, which wasn´t significantly more than the mobs had for doing the argent tourn dailies. I had 10 level 80s when Cata started, only one of them had decent gear. I really saw no difference. warlock, spriest and mage could all kill a mob before it got to them. melee characters got a new cata weapon from about the 3rd quest. The only character I remember waiting for a main weapon for was my hunter... but well, hunters never have problems questing.

Indeed. This guy speaks the truth. The opening quests in Hyjal are tough if you're just in Northrend greens. Not, OMG I can't complete them tough, but oh, must recuperate after each kill kind of tough.
Cheers.

Fair enough Tummpp, but it's definitely harder than the transition to either BC or WOLK, that's for sure.
Cheers.
