Ok so I have been absent from Wowhead for quite a long time, and I saw many comments with icon on a linked items, like here
Rigormortis
#comments:id=1678698
So how to do that? can anyone share the syntax? I have been trying to google it but still hasn't got any clue

Yes, you can just paste
http://www.wowhead.com/item=50068
and the comment system will transform it into \
Rigormortis
which is the official code to create such links.
PS: Technically, it will create \
Rigormortis
with an implicit "Live version" parameter. If omitted, the domain will be variable and depend on the current page's domain. Just mentioning this cause there are some situations where this is useful :P

As the others have said above me, just take the number (.com/item=
50068
) and then use the dropdown menu above the textbox called "Links" to choose what type the number is associated with (.com/
item
=50068). This will make the link code
\
Rigormortis
and upon submitting the content (comment or guide, etc), it will convert automatically to
Rigormortis
- inserting any icon, uploading the proper name, and changing the color to reflect the rarity.
Alternatively, if you're looking for a more time- and space-consuming method and are using this on the
"Create New Guide"
feature, you can insert the icon, item, and coloring all separately.
Use
\
Rigormortis\
(note the use of "url" and the need to type the item name yourself, allowing for misspellings or additional information if you choose), place
\\
before the / tag (code obtained by clicking on the large icon at the top of the item page), and then selecting the appropriate color
\\
(selected on the guide page only from the "Color" dropdown list).
The only difference between these techniques will be that the link will be automatically underlined. The icon, name, and color can be mixed up so they don't match the actual item/spell/etc, and due to the extra coding effort, this is the only time it's reasonable to actually put in all of this extra code - generally, stick to the first technique outlined.

Thanks it's worked. At first I was rather unsure since the icon didn't show up in the Preview, but in the end it worked perfectly

This is likely going way beyond what is being asked by the OP but to expand further on what SquireKel is saying there's a few layout options for database links depending on how much coding you're willing to do (and whether you'd doing it in a guide).
On the normal forums or comments the coloured links with icons are limited to simply taking people to that page and showing the regular tooltip.
Example
Code
Rigormortis
Regular link
Rigormortis
Rigormortis
Icon with link elsewhere
Rigormortis
Rigormortis
Still links off site but has the item's tooltip WITH additions and is recoloured
Rigormortis
Rigormortis
Layout like a regular database link but links elsewhere

Don't know if it's intended, but at least the modified tooltip works in the forum/comments as well ;)

Though I can't color it, true. Would be nice if the \ tag recognized the rel parameter, too.

That's what I mean, you can't use the formatting.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##asakawa##DELIM##

Hey, so I'm trying this one my guide, using this code
Rigormortis
Valor Points
So I understand what the class is (the color)
But what about the /item=50068&ench=4074
I don't understand how I can make this show my item instead of the sword, because when I change item into currency, it doesn't work. So is there a way this can work?
Post by
asakawa
You can add a link to that currency simply with \
Valor Points
=
Valor Points
I was getting pretty deep into the tweaks and options you can use above and they are almost always unnecessary for anything but the most particular circumstance. If you're trying to do something more than a simple currency link the it's probably best to describe what end goal you're trying to achieve with it.

I think I've asked this before, but could we get the currency tag in comments & forum posts, too, instead of just guides? :)

I support this a lot.(##RESPBREAK##)2060##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##This has been done now. :)

Is there a possible way to do the regular link when responding to a comment? I don't see the "link" button in that section and don't like having to look up an item icon.
Post by
Nulgar
Pasting the raw link should work in replies, too, it will convert that into syntax automatically. Item just as an example, same for spell, faction, etc.

so. in preview it doesn't show the icon but if I actually hit submit the icon will be there? I have spent the last 40 min trying to figure out why the icon isn't showing up, trying various combinations including looking up what the particular icons code is and using
I don't suppose it would be possible for preview to show the icons?
Post by
SquireKel
Correct. Preview merely shows that the link is active. Once you publish the comment / guide / post, the link will convert to the appropriate icon and content.
