Why only one Death Knight per realm?

Just a thought...Death knights are no longer above par with other classes, and gameplay wise have no advantage (Yeah there's the whole 'start at 55' deal but who wants to skip Azeroth and go straight to OUTLAND post-cataclysm?). It's a shame as I'd like to Roleplay an Alliance Death knight but also a Horde one on the same realm, I'm not demanding that the cap is removed, I'm only wondering why it is there if Death Knights are on par with other classes these days?

They are the Hero Class, because they start at 55. That's the way they are.

Profession alts.

In addition, because they start at 55, you can easily generate over 100k guild experience in a matter of an hour or so without much effort.
Repeatedly.
Restricting it to one per realm forces you to be unable to make a DK without deleting the 85 DK you might already have.

All valid points =/ I'm not a pro-proffesionist (if that's a word, probably isn't) and I didn't take the guild experiance into account.

Not really into DK's but this seems like a rather idiotic reason to not allow it. I can have as many toons as I please. 400 lvl 85's if I choose to do so but as long as they aren't DK's? Why am I able to have as many other toons as I can possibly create but only 1 DK.. Just dosen't seem like it should matter if it dosen't matter with any other race out there. I mean when DK's first came out (Before I started even playing WOW) they had some sort of advantage but again... ehh.. so? I should be able to have as many as I want if I can have as many of any other toon right?
Maybe the restriction should be 1 DK per toon over level 55. so I have 3 toons over the requirement I should be able to get 3 DK's

I wasn't aware there was a restriction of one per realm until I read this a few days ago but I have to assume it's based upon being that much closer to being able to power level professions.
Up until Cataclysm you only had to be level 65 to max out crafting professions (450) and you could probably level a couple death knights to 65 in one night if you really wanted. This creates a situation where someone could have multiple transmute alchemists or jewelcrafters and would thus have an advantage over someone who wants to have 1 of each class or something similar since the realm cap for characters is 10.
Of course now it's level 75 to cap 525 (84 for all the other crafting professions) and it makes for a bit different story.
