Adding WoW to steam

I just added WoW to Steam via the "add non-steam application" option. All this does is allow me to use Steams Shift-Tab overlay feature to chat with people over steam.
Not really a big deal but still interesting.
My question: Is this safe? Will it make compromising my account easier, or will it make it safer somehow?

It doesn't change security in any way. I don't see why this thought would even come up.
Thought it's good to see they finally fixed it. It used to have a bug and fail to launch WoW when you did this.

It shouldn't be a problem because all Steam does is launch WoW.exe the application, I think.

Nevertheless I play WoW in windowed mode so I've never really seen the need as I can chat with people without alt-tabbing.
Same here, but add a second monitor now. Back before said second monitor I did use Steam for WoW so I could access a web browser "in-game".

I have used WoW with steam for a long time now, and not that beta has been announced I have renamed a lot of my non-steam games to World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Beta to prank my WoW playing steam friends.
I also changed some of my other games names to Crysis 2: Closed Beta

I do not know what Steam is, and how it works. But as a side of precaution:
NEVER
launch World of Warcraft with any program other than the intended launcher.exe. To do so otherwise is a serious breach in security itself. By allowing a separate, non Blizzard authorized program, to launch the wow.exe file will allow that program to attach and possible keylog any and all information you do in the game.
You might also want to ask that question on the
Official Technical Support Forums
.

This
is Steam.
Again, the question is still. "Is it approved by Blizzard?"
Everyone says, "Oh i got hacked but i dont know where from", then months down the line they find out it was some program such as this... Just side on caution and ask the official forums.

It is not approved by Blizzard, but it is a secure and trusted program. Launching through Steam is no different than launching through Xfire, or even launching with Xfire running.

Chill out man.. Steam is what Blizzard was trying to emulate with their ridiculous "RealID" concept. Unless Valve (highly doubt it) or your copy gets compromised (possible, but no more likely than the laucher.exe file being compromised), it won't end badly.
Im just saing, be cautious.... and if Blizzard is tring to emulate another software like that... to me it sounds as if they dislike the way it works.
Just ask the official forums and be cautious. That is all i am saing.

Not being cautious would be using XxWoWGuRuxX's "Super Amazingly Epic WoW Launcher" available from Megaupload and Rapidshare. If I trust Valve, and therefore Steam, enough to enter my Paypal info through their software, I trust them enough to launch my WoW.
Again, it's no different that using Xfire. Both programs do absolutely nothing other than run the executable.

Federal, I understand you say to err on the side of caution with Steam, but it is no more dangerous than launching WoW normally. As you said, you don't understand what Steam is or how it works. The only way Steam would negatively affect WoW is if Steam itself was compromised, and even then, this would have little to no effect on WoW since all it does is launch the game for you while sending info back to Steam saying WHAT you're playing, and not much else. Hell, you can name WoW something different entirely such as Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
Also, Valve is awesome.
ANYWAY. WoW in Steam is fine. Ladida.

I have been using WoW with steam for as long as I can remember... not a problem to be had with either. WoW accounts are being compromised by stupid users not trusted famous businesses.
If blizz is going to share my information publicly with RealID and break their contract that was in place when I gave them the info, I'm going to start WoW with steam, deal with it.
