I prefer to use
RaidMobMarker
; it adds a small button bar that allows you to mark by targeting the mob and then clicking. It has added functionality in that you can assign particular marks to particular names, and then one-click auto-announce the assignments in chat.

I use the numpad and just set each number to a different mark. You guys can install addons and write fancy macros if you want though ;)
Heh, my numpad is already in use for keybinds on my second action bar.
Come to think of it, I don't think I have a single numerical key combination (number, numpad, alt+, ctrl+, shift+, etc.) that isn't in use already . . . maybe that's why I had to find an add-on.
*chuckles*

For a simple "mark skull" macro, if you would like a clickable button:
/script SetRaidTargetIcon("target",8)
Ty soooo much! :)
