Changes in Patch 7.2
Beast Mastery Hunters have received several spell animation and effect updates this patch.
have new visual effects (and audio in some cases).
now tints you and your pet red instead of orange (though Hati is still tinted orange).
A Murder of Crows
has new audio (it had none before). Falcosaurs are now tameable pets (as part of the Raptor family), and soon the new Feathermane family will become tameable at the end of the Legionfall campaign (look for a guide on those here in the coming weeks).
now causes your pet to instantly charge at the target if they are out of melee range (up to 25 yards), just like Kill Command. This significantly improves the usability of the talent and it is highly recommended for single target DPS.
now stuns players for a shorter duration.
New Artifact Traits
Bond of the Unseen Path
: This replaces the old damage and stamina bonuses from the pre-7.2 Spiritbound trait. It should be the first point you select when you empower your
: The new 4-point trait. It reduces the Focus cost of
by 2 per point, making Cobra Shot cost 32 Focus instead of 40. It will help with Focus starving issues and make the single target rotation more enjoyable. It's one of the main benefits of
Roar of the Seven Lions
, but now available to everyone.
Aspect of the Wild
is active, your primary pet and Hati deal additional Nature damage with each melee attack to all enemies in an 8-yard cone in front of them. This makes Aspect of the Wild a much more potent cooldown (especially in AoE), and will increase the value of
Call of the Wild
Convergence of Fates
(especially when used in combination).
: Every Cobra Shot has a 10% chance to summon 2-4 snakes that melee attack your target for trivial damage, but also apply the
DoT. This trait gives a small increase in single target DPS.
All existing 3-point traits can now be upgraded to 4 points.
Concordance of the Legionfall
: After you've unlocked all the new traits (and upgraded all the old ones to 4/4), you will unlock this trait and slowly upgrade it. It increases your Agility by 2000 for 10 sec (approximately 1.37 procs per minute), with a 200 Agility increase for each subsequent point.
For a recommended build order with all these new traits, see the
of this guide.
: New crafted legendary gloves. These won't be winning any DPS titles, but the 3 sockets make them a pretty solid option if you don't have 2 legendaries yet (or if you only have utility legendaries anyway). The bonus on these gloves is also useful for world content, and it's quite fun being able to instantly fly around without having to mount up every time.
Roots of Shaladrassil
now has additional Critical Strike rating.
The Shadow Hunter's Voodoo Mask
now has additional Critical Strike rating.
now grants a bonus 2% Haste and 10% movement speed at all times, which increases to 25% Haste and 70% movement speed during the proc.
What makes Beast Mastery special
Beast Mastery is the only ranged specialization that can do 100% of its damage while moving. Despite being ranged, most of their damage comes from their pets, which have to be in melee range of the target. The majority of this pet damage is controlled by the Hunter rather than happening automatically. Beast Mastery Hunters are the only specialization that can tame Exotic beasts. In total, there are over
50 different pet families
that can be tamed, each with dozens of different looks. In Legion, Hunters have two permanent pets because of the Hati bonus from
Beast Mastery Hunters excel in small group content such as Mythic+ dungeons because of their strong AoE damage, and the fact that they can bring valuable tools such as
(Blood Lust) or
(Battle Resurrection) which might otherwise be missing from a small group. They also do competitive damage in raids.
All races, including Gnomes, can play Hunters.
Hunters can use bows, crossbows, and guns.
Iconic Beast Mastery Hunter abilities:
Mastery: Master of Beasts
: Increases the damage done by your pets by 18%.
